insuring a gts t bar??

Post by Demon A »

Firstly I apologize of this is the wrong section. I'm on my phone and couldn't see if there's an insurance section here.

Why are insurance companies flummoxed by the gts t bar? Does it not exist or something? Car I'm looking at buying (a few threads down) has gts badge on the back yet a t bar roof yet neither admiral or Adrian flux (worryingly) recognise it. Unless the bootlid has been changed?

Don't even get me started on thw number plate.

Neither company would accept that it's a gts t bar which confuses me a lot. Also if you look on comparison sites etc, there's no option for a gts t bar. Do they not actually exist and all are badged incorrectly?

I wouldnt worry, generally neither flux nor admiral are that competitive. Get on the blower to A-plan Thatcham, Sky or Chris Knott. All of these should recognise the car.

Sky are giving me a call back with a price in a minute (hopefully). Admiral were £200 cheaper than flux amazingly. But that was as a gt tbar turbo. Massive ball ache.

Also give these guys a call, their main business is track/race car insurance but they'll cover limited annual mileage road use on some sports car models including the MR2. They are underwritten by Aviva and were nearly half the price of the next best quote I got.

Not to be totally recommended though as the UK NA is also known as a 'GT'.

Not by Toyota in the UK. I'd suggest ring Toyota to confirm. I have.

GTcoupe and GTtbar were the uk revisions. The GT and the GT-S were the turbos.

Coupe and 2.0gti-16 are the UK models.

G, G-LTD, GT & GTS are imports. The GT and GTS being turbos.

I know technically you're right.
But the dealerships, even the UK brochures all had the the UK NA as a GT or GT T-Bar :)

Be careful with admiral. If you plan to mod the car they won't cover the cost of them. You can pay extra (£50 ish) to have that covered but they will only pay out for these based on 10% of the value of the vehicle. So if you had some expensive alloys for example and your car is worth £1500 then you got a big deficit to make up!

Admiral, Elephant, Sheilas Wheels and Diamond are all owned by the same group. They also own Confused.com which is why these results will always come top.

IMHO I have always had good service from Admiral but with the V6 I now have to go elsewhere, as Racer7 says they will not insure a modded car.

I completely agree that not all models are correctly listed and should be manually added, if not get the insurance company to confirm that they are accepting the model as you stated.

The other good thing about this cover is that they allow unlimited performance modifications.
