CT26 in a rev3??

Post by balders187 »

Hi, so I recently decided to fit a decat pipe and one of those greddy copy coolers and in doing so noticed there appears to be a CT26 installed on the car?

Its a 95 Rev3 where the frame numbers check out as a 95 rev3 turbo, engine appears to be rev3 (running MAP sensor, oil filters located a the bottom, etc) but it has a Ct26 installed!? Is there anyway to easily tell if a hybrid has been installed in place or I'm guessing, more likely the turbo blew at some point and was replaced with whatever was to hand! ](*,) I'll upload some pictures when I get home from work.

My main question then is where can I get hold of a good nick / recon Ct20b from and how much am I looking at? and is the Ct26 worth anything in exchange/sale?

Cheers

Where abouts are you mate, only reason i ask is that a local lad knocked on my door a few months back asking if i knew what was wrong with his car (I didnt know him). me being a mug offered to look around and turned out the turbo was shot, For some reason it was a ct26 on it then, i told him to upgrade it back to its ct20 but he then told me (after me working on his car) he was selling it anyway so he wants to just get rid of it with another cheap ct26
 To$$er conned me basically into lending a hand with no thanks in return, Was a red rev 3 tubby in holbury, southampton??

P.s on another note, i have a ct20b which has only covered 50k miles, asking £300 plus postage

Nah i've had the car for over a year now, Green rev3. I'd be interested in the turbo if its in good nick and you don't mind waiting till next week as I don't get paid till the 14th, Although I'll be down in Southampton moving my little sister out so could pick it up then?

The only thing you know for sure is its not the original turbo.
I cant imagine anyone putting a Ct26 on a rev3 unless it was hybrid.

Try Turbo Technics as they do exchange turbos, and may have a ct20b that was exchanged for a ct26 hybrid.

I've got folders of paperwork from whilst its been in the uk. was imported in 99 on low mileage (as far as you can know with imports).

Theres no mention of any replacment, which would lead to the logic of why would you do it without it being a hybrid... But it looks like a bog standard ct26 to me. I would of thought a hybrid would have a different turbine housing on it or at least had the compressor bored out to take a bigger wheel.

I think once fitted to a car a stage 1 Ct26 hybrid would look the same as a stock ct26... as it is meant to be a bolt on replacement without needing other mods. Something will be different internally, but the differences depend on who made the hybrid.

drive the car hard to the redline, keep an eye on the boost gauge, if the boost drops back down after 5krpm it's a regular ct26.

Out of curiosity, would that test still work if it was a tired hybrid ct26?

Either way, if it's not holding boost past 5k rpm, it's a piece of junk and needs replacing.

Yeah it doesn't hold boost at the upper end of the rev range. Looks like I need to try and get hold of CT20b. What's the going rate for a good one of those? Is the CT26 worth anything or should it just be resigned to a fancy desk ornament?

Sounds like a standard ct26, you'd get 50 quid for it :thumleft:
