To the OP

- it just depends what you want

- and expect

- from a car doesn't it?

I mean, if your MR2 isn't giving you what you want, flog it.

I wanted a

"sporty" looking car first and foremost.

I have a daughter who is

"that" age, and I wanted her to be as into the car as I was, her in terms of the cool factor getting dropped off/picked up from school and being seen in it, me as in tinkering with it.

I was looking at MX5s and MR2s as both fit the bill, and I wanted convertible or T-top again for daughter mostly.

However, my tin top came up and was too good to miss.

Like has been said, they, with possibly exception to amber front indicators and rev1/2 rear light clusters

- just do not look dated.

I get young lads at random walking past me when I am tinkering with it giving it

"wow, great car mister.

.

.

what is it" lol, when you tell them its near 20 year old, they can't believe it.

Performace, OK out the box, if its working as it should, nothing to write home about

- and the handling

- unless your second name is Schumacher and you've won a few F1 world champs.

.

.

.

well unless thats you, its highly unlikely you will ever make the most of it, and even then never really on a public road.

If you want usable mindblowing handling, get an impreza

- but then

- you are just like every other impreza on the road, pretty much.

I like the oddness, they aren't as common, with only 2 seats, 2 doors, twitchy handling and the ride on our crap roads, they are an almost eccentric choice.

I like that.

I was also looking at early 80s Lotus Esprits the day I bid on

- and won

- this car lol

I bought mine on a whim on ebay.

I figured with what I bid, even if it did reach my max bid, which it didn't, I could break it and get my money back if it was a shed.

As it turned out, fundamentally its a good car, just little silly things messing it up, but I'm putting them right, one thing at a time, the car is becoming a pleasure to drive

- but that process

- identifying and putting right issues, on a budget of SFA

- thats where I easily get most of my pleasure from any car.

I don't need

- but not saying would never get involved

- the whole meet, social scene thing.

I like forum interaction, the learning, the swapping tips etc.

I get that

- but then I get that with any car I've had, even my boring old vectra lol, which incidentally I also tweak about.

At the end of the day, if the car ticks your specific needs, then its a goodun

- if not, flog it, life is too short.

Oh, my car is a daily driver, shopper, school runner, the whole thing.

That just adds to the whole eccentric thing lol, a car is to be used, not coveted, after all
