lower suspension ball joints [answered]

Post by flippin'eck »

my mk1b failed mot on nearside front lower suspension arm balljoint and offside rear lower suspension arm balljoint. both citing 'excessive play'.

my local motor factor sourced me one 'ball joint lower l/r' part number fbj5239 12j253fa bin no. 4zg376

they said they couldn't get hold of the other one

trouble is, this was a year ago and i can't recall whether the one they did get me, was for the front nearside or the rear offside!

i have a scrap mr2 i can harvest some parts off and having had a look, the lower ball joints look very similar all round. also, looking at the new one i have, it looks very symmetrical such that maybe it would fit both sides of the car and could also be bolted on either way round?

is it the same balljoint unit for both front and back?

if not, do i have a new front one or a new back one.. and where could i get the 'other' one, rather than use one off the scrapper?

thanks for any help.

===== edit ======

found some info to self-answer my q:
front is fbj5239 and it can go on either side
rear is fbj5235, this fits either side too

where do I go to place an order Peter (and BTW do you stock replacement front and rear droplinks? - I'm assuming these 'anti-roll-bar linkages' my MOT man is telling me about, are those?)
