I'm not that surprised, stab in the dark diagnostic techniques rarely work.

Try checking the vacuum line to your MAP sensor, especially the solid pipe that runs around the plenum, it often fractures, if that has happened you will get very rich running.

Run a vac line straight from the black plastic take off on your plenum to the MAP sensor.

This too is a stab in the dark by the way, if i had that car at my garage i'd be going through the diagnostics methodically.

ive checked all the vac lines ,but I'll check them again

your too far away paul lol I'm in manchester although this car is strictly a project or play toy and the idea is to do the work myself ,theres bound to be things I'm gonna get stuck on ,I mean ive messed about for about 2 months with 3 distributors before I got one that worked and didnt leak oil everywhere ,the first one I rebuilt just wouldnt run properly

this whole issue could still be down to ignition timing though ,although it runs rich at idle it runs well and has plenty of power ,theres no timing marks on the crank so made some with a protractor which was the same size as the pulley but I wish there was a more exact way of setting the timing

Chris do you want the pin for the block to set your timing?

ive got the pin dave just the flywheel has been either replaced or been rubbed down so there were no tdc or timing marks I made my own using the marks on the cam pulleys ,I'll have to pop over to your sometime and show you it ,it needs work you could give me some advice

No problem just give me a ring first as my job has some mad shifts at the moment. I have two complete cross over engines one for spares and one good one so we can get yours running mint. I would come over to yours but would never find the secret road even though I lived a mile away for 10 years.

I'm going to relatives today but i'm free mon/tuesday obviously it wouldnt be any good looking at it in the dark or rain

Ive got that wing as well you can give me some advice on changing that as well

yeah no problem theres no rush as ive got the bmw runaround ,although I'm gonna go out in the mr2 today as its so much better to drive

The standard marks are just 3 nicks in the edge of the crank pulley, quite easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for

there are no marks at all as the pulley has been rubbed down and powdercoated by the previous owner
