[Mk2] [Turbo] bad day....

Post by dylan5084 »

had the 2 in at hyper tech, in bonnybridge 2day, good bunch of lads... my turbo has had it, needs replaced, and a compression leak test discovered a 20% leak on all cylinders into the engine... bore wear, or piston rings? not a good day, so much for the engine being a recon

they said it would be ok with a new turbo, but wouldnt perform to its full, and might use oil... what to do?

20% leak into bores, dont think timing was checked, what would checking the static timing do?

just put a used engine it it for cheapness or rebuild your the expensive way.

There is a very big difference between a recon engine and a rebuilt engine

A poorly timed engine with no other wear issues will result in low compression results and no change when the leakdown test is performed. What were the results?

20% leakage isn't that bad. Find a cheap working 2nd hand turbo, replace and see how the engine performs. Cheapest option as you need a new turbo anyway.

No that is not the right turbo

Its a CT20B or CT26 small as its called NOT a CT20

The flange is wrong fitting aswell but if your thinking of putting a better turbo on I would fit the ct20b ill have a spare ct26 in a couple of weeks that i wont need thats a good working turbo once i get it mine off.
