This thread is of great interest to me because ladies and gents i dont own a mr2,i do have a e46 320d with decat remap and nitrous,this set up gives me tons of economy and power .. i joined this site because i really want a mr2 turbo,ive realised tho that the reality is that it will have to be a second car NOT a change of car

Anybody else bored of their MR2?

Just wondering why I pay to insure and tax it when it comes out on dry days only.

After my pug 306 dying and getting scrapped, I'm really wondering whether or not to just sell up and buy a newer, more normal car that I can drive any time and park it up in a car park without a second thought.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Been looking at Pug 206 GTi 180's and Renault clio 182's circa 2004 models.

I'm the same, mine doesn't even come out on dry days now. I do somewhere in the lower hundreds of miles a year. I've a few bits and pieces to put on over the winter and if I don't feel any different about her I think I'll sell her. I think the only plus side now is that it's all paid for and the car is costing only tax and insurance.

Don't be so sure, try driving one first of all. The people that're bored of them typically get bored after many, many years of ownership.

Also, nitrous? Who the hell is your insurer and how much do you pay?

Yes mate mr2 prices are pants. Part of the enjoyment for me was doing the research, e-mailing and talking to people about different mods and various specs. Now it's all done it seems to have lost it's shine a bit. Also my new job means I work permanent Wed, Thurs and Fri nights and every other Saturday night. All 12 hr shifts, so it limits me getting out and about. Unless they put the JAE on a Monday afternoon.

well i have family in london and lots of littlens to run around so the two seats and mpg would be a prob,i think
im a mature driver so insurance is high but afordable because of age
it would be a dream to be able run two cars, but i really do fancy a mr2 dont see many around liverpool either

Was always fine for me!

In all seriousness, my MR2 was a daily driver (come wind rain or snow) and was never a handful. I think the weight balance really helps. Only driving it through a heavy snow storm caused the rear end to come unstuck going up a hill, but that would've been a problem for any car and it was nothing that ~5mph in 3rd couldn't conquer.

I drove it on a frozen lake (sort of) at Billing once as well while picking up a chinese, that was fun

Ditto, mines weathered the last 5 winters just fine! Admittedly during the snow I had to work from home but that's not much of a hardship!

That said, mine'll be up for sale in a matter of weeks

Again, mine was a daily drive every working day of the year. Even with it running full power. Never skipped a beat.

Mine was a daily from new in the uk for 16 years. Last year I had to get the sills sorted and one of the wheel arches sorted as they had corroded. I cleaned the nooks and crannies out on every wash too.

Wet and salt are not going to do any car much good, let alone a 20 year old. Going to be laying mine up for winter for the first time this year.
