A Few Questions from a newbie Tubby owner

Post by chevy »

Hello everyone. On friday got a Mr2 Turbo and i'm so excited. I got i from Porth South Wales and drove it home to Stoke on Trent No Problems.

However it has a few niggles and any advice would be great.

The first is that the Temp Gauge does not work. I have google the net and it says i can test it by putting a paper clip in the spade connector and ground it to the car and the needle should move.

Is this correct or will this damage something.

Also the car has a boost gauge fitted which shows the car boosting at just 0.5 bar about 7psi. Again using google, the standard psi seems to be 12. So is my car protecting itself believing its not warm enough to boost higher? Or do i need to buy an Adjustable Boost Valve and increase it m self?

Thank you in advance for any advice or comments.

The standard PSI is 7, IIRC. You'll need a boost controller to raise it beyond that. What rev turbo is it?

7 psi is actuator pressure. You will need to disable the tvsv to boost higher and of course a boost controller.

If you bridge the connector it should make the gauge work. It's not the green or white plug

Hi.

I believe its an early Rev 2. It as a turbo engine and on the side of the turbo it say CT26. Its a T-Bar

It's probably running actuator pressure because it doesn't know the engine is warm.

Fix the temp/temp gauge/thermostat problem and the boost issue may fix itself.

From what I remember if the ecu has any faults it puts it into safe mode. Or because the temp is low (cannot remember exact temp) it won't let you fully boost. Although it would boost lower than 7 cold.

Maybe if the gauge isn't working it assumes its cold all the time although the ecu temp sensor is separate to the gauge one. Try doing a diagnostic aswell

Is it wind up night tonight? There is some utter b0ll0x been posted here. :?

1) Temp gauge reading has nothing to do with temp ECU sees. Totally different sensors. The two sensors may or may not both be working, and may or may not be reporting the same temperature.

2) Actuator pressure is 7psi. A VSV raises this to 10psi subject to certain conditions being met.

3) ECU is not put into safe mode if it sees an error code.
