The car must be equipped with a mechanism whereby the fire extinguisher and battery master cut off switch can be activated externally to the car. The most common method in club racing is to have a pull cable that physically actuates the appropriate mechanism.

One of the problems with this method is that if left out in the rain, cheap cables can rust enough overnight to stop working resulting a scrutineering fail - which means you can't race. We use a more expensive stainless steel pull cable in an aluminium sheath to ensure this doesn't happen. At the end of the day, someone's life could rely on a marshal being able to set off the fire extinguisher while the car is upside down in a tyre wall.
