crash bar ripped off wile towing (pics)

Post by ross-taylor »

I need a new bracket asap anyone know where I can get one or got one mine snapped and I've had to leave the car and get a train home. Also would it have done any damage to the car?

Is it the cast bracket or the top bracket that you lock the alternator to when tensioning the belt?

I guess it's the latter as breaking the cast bracket is quite an achievement.

It was the top bracket that snapped, it really would be an achievement. To snap the other one.

Had a desaster day yesterday, my mate was towing me home and we hooked the rope to what I thought was a towing eye that attached to the crash bar. Long story short I don't have aa crash bar any more. I then found a big tow looking thing under the car.

Not a good day.

Bad luck, those towing eyes on the bumper bar probably made sense when the cars were new and the bumper bars were intact but many have come a cropper since :pale:

Cable tie stitches are a nice touch though! I name thee, Scarface

Yeah there's a secondary towing eye underneath, not much good to you now! I would just silicone the indicators in for now, easy to reverse in the future too :thumleft:

Yeah i found that after it ripped off and finished towing it home using that one.

Silicone sounds like an easyer than my idea of making a bracket i will do that.

I dont know why they put those hooks on the front as you should never tow from these as your asking for trouble.

Yeah I wish I had seen the second ones underneath before I attached it the the front one. Even if the bar was new it can't be very strong.

I made some rightangle brackets from ali sheet

Fastened them to the bumper cover with M6 nuts & screws, inside the hole where the lamp sits

The screws don't show

Bad luck about the backing rail and bumper. The car i've just bought had one worse than yours as I pushed the front indicators straight through the bumper. I do have a bumper rail and white bumper spare but I will have to pay for membership before I can offer it for sale.

wow tht is bad to be able to push the indercators strait through it.

i would love to replace the bumper and everything but im not in the position to spend any money on the car at the moment so im having to make do, only got 3 weeks left of driving it before the car goes in storage.

I drove mine without the bar for a while but I found the front end suffered without it.

You're not the first and you wont be the last!

You sorted the alternator bracket yet?
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.
