White Mk1 scrapping advice please

Post by slinky »

Unfortunately I must remove the rusting Mk1 that is sat on my drive, I would prefer it went to someone who would be able to make use of it.
It has sat for 2 years as I couldnt admit to myself it was beyond my abilities to repair so it is in a pretty sorry state.
I assume the for sale section the best place for it ? is there even still a market on here for cars that require extensive repair or for parts?

Cheers

You can offer it for sale as a whole on the for sale section or you can break it for parts and put it up in the MR2s being broken section if you want to take the time to strip it for parts. (both require premium membership I'm afraid)

You'll probably get more money doing the latter but the process is likely to be slow and will take up a reasonable amount of your time.

would love to strip it for parts but think my other half would emasculate me. Forgot about the premium membership thing, will look into that.

Edit
Well that took all of 2 seconds to subscribe, if only all forums were set up that way.

It can look a bit unsightly, I know when I lived with my folks I got some unappreciative looks as I was breaking my old Mk1 on their drive.

The subscription does tend to fall over quite a lot, but shouldn't be a problem for new joiners (touch wood). Oh and it does auto renew next year in case you missed that bit and only wanted a years subs.

I noticed the auto renew, dont have a problem with that. Hope to get another Mr2 in the near future just not decided which mk to go for, as much as I like the Mk1 I havent even looked at a MK2 or 3 yet :)

Mk3 will be as near as you can get to Mk1 as far as behaviour on the road. From what I know you want to be looking post 2001 to avoid potential pre-cat issues (or get the pre-cat removed).

I've not driven a Mk3 yet so can't say more than that.

Mk2s I've had some experience driving and I do enjoy them a lot, different kettle of fish to the MK1 though. If I had the space and funds I'd definitely have a later spec tin top N/A in the collection. :thumleft:

Well I didnt expect it to go so quickly but looks like it is going to a good home with the intention of being restored. Very happy.

Once I have tidied the drive I will be on the look out for another :D
Shouldnt have any problems getting approval from the wife, I hope.

Thinking about por but not to sure as ive got a fair bit of etch primer and quality sealer. Interior got stripped out today, old alarm removed as it was a bit temperamental and a Clifford alarm hidden and fitted with micro wave protection so I can have the alarm on with the roof out

Floor pan is pretty much mint fount one hole but its so small just drilled it out to grommet size and put a rubber grommet in it. Next time your passing pop in and have a look. There is no 2 mk1's that rot in the same place they are weird. The bad bit I found today is the n/s 1/4 window has been fitted by a window company with screen bond so its going to meet with a hammer to remove it , I hate it when people cut corners just for speed
