Janspeed exhaust fitment.

Post by paulh »

Hi everyone, just bought a janspeed system for my mk1 and was considering fitting it myself. Can this be done without ramps? Also can anyone tell me where the best place to buy the gaskets from is and is there a fix to the studs coming loose which I have read about? Any advice would be much appreciated!! :)

Cheers Paul!

I'm expecting relations between neighbours to deteriorate in the coming months!

You don't need ramps Paul

A good trolley jack & a pair of axle stands are essential though

Mr T ring gaskets probably don't fit the Janspeed properly

Try PMing Superred, he got some suitable ones IIRC

Cheers mate I'll try asking him. I've been after one for a while and picked it up on eBay last week.

That's good to know I don't have a trolley jack etc so I was going to have a go without lifting it!

i got one for 30£ 2 weeks ago :)

they are loud, heard louder on a mk1.. :thumleft: :thumleft:
mine will be off in the next month...

i would recommend jacking it up and axle stands to do it, incase the down pipe bolts are siezed they can be a bu88er

Let me know Pete, i can deal with loud. I was going to put a 4" kakimoto straight through with no silencers or anything one, but decided the residents in the local area wouldn't be too happy!

Defo couldn't do mine without jacking but my suspension is non standard & very low

If you don't have jack & stands it's worth a go without lifting

To do any serious work on a Mk1 I couldn't manage without at least one trolley jack (I have 3) ramps and a good pair of stands

I had mine on ramps at the front & stands under the rear jacking points earlier this year when I had the transaxle out

Main thing is safety when you're under a car of course

if youre not lifting it then theres no danger of the car falling on you but be carefull of the exhaust it sortoff comes lose all of a sudden and it would be easy to damage it or hurt your hand ,put something underneath the front section when youve undone the manifold to system ,then the next mounting ,then just goto the back if the car and push it back on its mount ,if its an OEM its quite heavy but anyother will be lighter again watch for it falling off the car ,but once undone and on the ground i found it quite easy to remove from under the car ,I used a huge piece of cradboard to rest it on
