There's so much difference in ride between Tein and Eibach, it seems strange that the springs look so similar!

Black, and rusty as fvck. It was hard to say for sure but I'd say black.

Eibach Sportlines also look quite similar.

They are not Eibach Pro springs as they are progressively wound, spacing between the coils varies along their length (as are the others shown above).

Those springs are linear, coils equally spaced along their length.

You think? They look to be a slightly different shape, narrowing at the top/bottom in pictures I can find on the internet.

I'd say they are non of the above. Note the flat spot at the the end of the bottom coil on the larger spring and the even spaced coils.

Tried for a long time to find out what they where myself but no one could come up with anything.

I had a similar thread on the MR2OC, but no doubt it's been long since pruned.

I sold them on to a friend of mine, and now we are contemplating swapping shiny bits and I may end up with them back.

Did you use the car with these fitted? What would you estimate the lowering measurement to be, and would you describe it as like stock, harder, significantly harder or softer?

Yeah I must have driven that car for about 4 years with those springs on it. It came with them on, and as far as I know it had not been in the country for long when I bought it so chances are they where fitted in Japan but I couldn't say that for definite.

I've no idea what the lowering measurement would be I'm afraid. I wasn't very clued up on MR2s or even cars in general when I had that one. I just knew it looked much lower and felt a lot hard a ride than the Rev1/2 N/A I had before it.

I would suspect they're a half decent sent just going from rest of the car. It had the BBS alloys, momo steering wheel, recaro seats and door cards, blue flame exhaust, rare boot liner, dandism mats, traction control, rev 2 ABS option, factory subs...
It looks like it had been an expensive car with all the options when it was first bought and had continued to have no expense speared keeping it tip top until I got my hands on it.

Like I say, I can't say anything for definite, but going by the clues above I would expect they where an decent set.

If anyone is interested in these springs, please get in touch and I will put you in touch with the owner - he's getting coil overs so will be wanting to sell these I'd expect. I think I will pass on them as I am not looking for harder riding and track type springs... My street isn't even paved...

The Op's springs (only looked at front) have 5 coils, the Tein's have 4, others have 6. What do standard springs look like? Apex springs look like a generic pic, not a product specific to the MR2.

From personal experience (getting a set of struts that had "stiffer than the MR2 championship" springs...) it was likely the springs were soft, giving the reduction in ride height and contacting almost immediately with the bumpstop giving the impression of stiff springs.

These are a lower spring than the earlier rev1. Check out the epc for the part number changes.

Ive only looked quickly but unless I'm mistaken they are identical and have exactly the same shape, design and amount of coils...

Different tensile strength steel? Different diameter spring?

Easiest thing to do is when removed from the struts, lean on them and see which one is softer!

On my thread on the MR2OC a while ago a few people posted up pics of stock springs and the number of coils where different. I think it might have been Trev and HM who posted the pics, not sure now, shame the thread is gone.
