[Mk2] [Turbo] Is a rev1 turbo head gasket good for 1 bar?

Post by Mattackers »

Hi guys and gals,
I have a head to replace and was supplied with a rev 1 HG with the recon head. Are these good for higher boost? Not going higher than 15psi. Cash is low but if there is someone that does them cheap I'll have a rev 3.

IMHO, for the sake of £50 it's madness not to upgrade to a MLS head gasket.

I've had plenty fail at 1Bar and less. Even N/A head gaskets fail and make no boost!

if the head is off or coming off then yes i would definately get the REV3 H/G and wouldn't even consider fitting the paper ones.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to do the head change in the next few days, so to get a rev 3 gasket - anyone know anyone who can get one of them to me ASAP???

It's hardly a must...I have been running over a bar for something like 6 years on a paper gasket.

Y risk it if your running on the limit of the paper gasket

I'm not sure but most say 15 psi but I've been running 18/19 psi for over 2 years with no problems but I wouldn't recommend it but if was doing the head I would upgrade it. Why not?

I understand that as long as the gasket has sealed correctly then there should be no reason I need a better one. But because so many have said its a wise move I have ordered one in. Don't want to risk it really.
Thanks guys

And new head bolts to go with it I hope, but not the ebay ones, Toyota or ARP only

mls is better than paper for our iron/ally combo.

You'd be nuts to leave it paper if doing the job.

ive seen an un-named company replacing H/G on MGF + MGTF and putting the origanal gasket on that was the cause of all there problems in the first place

when the MLS gasket is £ 10 more

FYI i have done an MGTF gasket that had 22,000 miles one owner and oil in the coolent LOL

GO FOR STEEL :thumleft:
