[Mk2] [NA] Help needed - Butchered active system and no idea where to start!!

I have been trying to get all my speakers working as only the door ones do.

Today was the day to have a look at all the wiring and see what was up. This is what i came across:

Passenger side pillar speaker:

What has been cut and electrical taped up?


What is this for and why is it unplugged?


What are these to wires and why are they cut?


And this is what i found behind the stereo!!


I mean bejeezus, someone has got very "snip" happy there!

Also the Stereo i want to put in has one plug in point whereas the wiring there seems to have two plugs so what would i need to do here?

Sorry for seeming like a numpty but car wiring is not my thing....

as far as im aware but ive never seen a unmessed with active system, is that you cant fit an aftermarket headunit, so most people cut them out, put in the new radio and put extra wires in and run them to the speaker locaitons and upgrade the speakers whilst they're on.

ine if my old cars had been done soo much worse than that,
pretty sure that was a mk2 as well
i recomened if you not 100%with car electrics leave it..
i can offer assitance if you need it as ya not too far from me

All i wanted to do was fit a stereo and get the speakers working as it seems a shame to have a total of 6+sub and only two working.

My prev MK2 had an active system that worked and it did sound pretty good.

As you say though, i am a complete novice with car electrics so will leave it for the moment.

Wow that was a mess! Looked like a game of cats cradle more than stereo wiring. You are a braver man than me that is for sure!
