[Mk2] [Turbo] Different engine Modding stages / steps

Post by killerferret666 »

I know very little about the engine tuning stages of the MR2 engine but are there stages as such.

for instance on the supra, it was always said to raise the boost, fuel cut defender, decat, exhaust, push you up to 300 BHP for about £1000 would get you to BPU (as they called it)

then next stage was hybrids, FPR, maybe injectors etc...

do we have any similar wiki or info on the mr2. For the turbo engine, would rev make a difference?

Also what is the normal route / order of engine mods on the mr2.

Im not interested in brakes / clutch / fuel pump etc... lets presume that's a given and people upgrade them appropriately.

Hi bud it basically goes
rev 3 basis-
Air filter
Decat/exhaust
Raise boost to 1.2b
Possible ecu.
300hp +

Then forged And get your wallet out.

cheers so for me, as a rev2, it goes...

change electronics from MAF
change head to head of a rev 3....repeat above steps. :D

Im only looking for around a max of 270bhp at the moment, that should be plenty in a 900Kg car.

Is that possible for a rev2?

Yep. You'll never make 300bhp from a rev1/2 using only BPUs.

Its going in a different car. Im actually building a kit car (no not ferrari type )

Its a tubular chassis but uses donor parts from the mr2;

Suspension
drivetrain
engine
electronics
some of cooling
Steering system

As with most kit cars...nice and light....just wouldn't want to crash in it. lol

But I am treating it to a lot of new stuff, every bush is new ...If I can replace it, its replaced.

Upgrading brakes to 4 pot s14 calipers (currently off being refurbished) etc..

so high power isnt exactly needed but id like a little more with the reliability still. I noticed my car has a field ECU...anyone know much about that? been struggling for info on it.

Are you going to lay the 3sgte on its side slightly like in the MR2 and Celica?

If not, you are going to have oiling issues.

The chassis is a kitcar, so im hoping mount points will be correct, however dont suppose you know the angle at which it sits, as i will double check at that point.

You do not have to lay the engine over at all, just change the sump to suit how you want to mount it

its early days at the moment, hence im stripping and reconditioning where I can, but ive got out. where I say refursbished, if ive done it it involves removing rust with wire brush and wool and degreaser then using rust convertor to protect it for the future.

* steering column + rack + PAS system, refurbished
* front suspension (off being powder coated and new bushes
* hubs being powder coated new bearings and lower ball joints
* handbrake cable off, refurbished attachment peicesand regreased
* rear calipers and front s14 4 pot calipers been refurbed & powder coated - get them back tomorrow (looking forward to that!)
* radiator out and refurbed, fins were in very good condition so didnt need replacing.
* ABS system off the car and refurbed

I started to label the wiring at the front today and pull the wires through and finally whipped off the dash before stopping. Without boring with too many pics heres just a few of parts i refurbished myself.

going to do the rusty area, at first I didnt as had alot of grease but i decided afterwards wanted it all coated.
