MK2 Rust Assessment

Post by synXero »

Hi folks, curious to hear some opinions and options.

Generally, I like to think my car's pretty tidy!

However, of late some rust areas are beginning to annoy.

Have a look and tell me what you think the best options for me would be?

And minor spots here and there:

I'm thinking my choices are either labour intensive DIY job that will probably not last very long, touch up small spots and get bigger areas sorted by professionals (costs involved...?), or get the whole car treated and resprayed. What sort of cost is involved in that?

The best and cheapest option for the door is looking around for some rust free second hand ones and swap them. If you have two people they are easy to replace.

The rest needs to be done by a pro for a good job.

I would have thought you will have a job to find some rust free doors in the right colour (i couldnt find any) but they do look repairable.

If i were you i'd get a pro on it now before it gets much worse, your car really doesnt look that bad though mine was much worse when i bought it, however it does seem to show up more on yours with it being white!

Isn't rehanging doors a total ball ache?

A bit... I had a big head ache adjusting when fitted other doors. But it was probably because my car was damaged and new doors were from not damaged car, so the shaper maybe was different a bit.

nope, around an hour to do if your on your own.

Just make sure you get the correct door, either import/uk and right colour white as there were 2 shades

No its very easy.

Changing the electric window motor and lock barrels over is not so easy but still do-able.
