Vibrating exhaust heat shield.

Hi, does anyone know how to get rid of the noise from a vibrating exhaust heat shield aside from turning up the stereo! It's not really bad, just annoying. Cheers.

Take it off, or its usually the manifold outer cover that has corroded around the bolts that hold it on, if its not too bad some large washers usually do the job of re-securing it.

Be careful if taking it off, ive ran without mine for a few weeks and a few of the pipes by the bulkhead seem to have been abit damaged from the heat. Not sure whether the racers run with it on or not.

Which one is it?

The outer one on the manifold often rattles due to no longer being attached by the correct number of bolts as they shear off easily during removal. Wouldn't recommend running without this one so the only real way to sort it is to drill and tap the threads again or replace the manifold with one that deosn't have any sheared bolts in it.

The inner one on the manifold can be removed if needs be as can the one on the exhaust itself betwen the exhaust and the sump (if it's still there, aftermarket exhausts don't usually have this one)

I'm having the same problem, could ditching all heat shields and just heat wrapping the exhaust work??

Pretty Low to be honest, and as Paul said, there is quite a big difference from JDM to Uk lights. I was seriously looking at the pads, glad i didn't now. Hope you both get it sorted!

has been a similar one on MK1 Club a while ago too
the fact that this type of thing is rare in the MK1 community does say a lot about the friendly mutual help atmosphere around these here parts

To my recollection i can't remember ever having an issue with a Mk1 owner over parts in the last 15 years, without sounding snobby we tend to be a good bunch keen to help each other along... i find it very dissapointing that James has chosen to treat two fellow owners this way, hopefully he will see sense and do the right thing.

My first experience of needing MK1 parts had an Irish chap in the North East sending a part to me F.O.C., wouldn't even take money for postage. From this experience I have always tried to help out fellow members in the same way, the old saying "What goes around comes around" works for both good & bad

On a brighter note, i've just got back from a trip to Buxton to meet Gary (mk1 Dal) who has sorted a front wing for me at a very good price. It turned out an even better price as he's not only repaired and primed a bit of rust on the lower corner as we agreed, but has resprayed the wing in 3E5 red for me!!

I've now got to do the rest of the car justice!!

Huge thanks to Gary for the wing........ and for all the advice he gave me about what to look for on these cars over the course of an hour I was there with him - so much appreciated.
