new to the seen(but got problems already)

Post by mr2ste »

just bought a 1995 mr2 in white with only 68000mls. had been garaged for a year. Tried to start and smoke bellowed out of engine bay. Upon further inspection the smoke came from the alternator belt and has now snapped. Sounds as though the alternator has seized and caused the belt to smoke and snap. Any ideas for one unhappy owner

Don't worry. Alternator seized, belt smoking, no damage will have been done to anything other than the belt.

You'll be fine :thumleft:

Mine did exactly the same after sitting idle for 6 months, changed the belt and freed up the pulley on the alternator with wd40 and grips and it's still on the car now four months later with no problems :D
