Am looking at relocating an intercooler to the boot, I read that the only people that do this are those that are looking at 350+bhp which I have no interest in at all.
Has anyone done this on what is otherwise a stock engine?
What parts were used?
I can't say as I use my boot and I don't really like the side mount and really for cool points relocating to the boot must be better
Also what was the better way of getting in to it as am not really sold on cutting the floor and adding under body scoops.
Is it feasible to work with the oe grill between the lights and mesh that to either allow air in/out and mount the intercooler vertical?
Thanks
Boot mount intercooler

Re: Boot mount intercooler
if you dont want to add scoops you can cut the rubbers around the side vents to allow air into the boot

Re: Boot mount intercooler
I looked into this a while ago, my plan was to let air in through the boot lid via a decreet scoop and out through the center pannel.
mounting the intercooler like this chaps. .

With something like cardhores toms rear grill for letting the hot air out. .

Just a thought. .

Re: Boot mount intercooler
I thought about what the cool kids did with bonnet raisers on Saxo bonnets for the boot to help air in.
As I have a rev1 I think I could modify the panel by removing the back and adding black mesh so it still looks similar thus allowing air out/in.
But then I was thinking there would be masses of intercooler pipe work going through the boot as it would be located on the rear panel of the boot
Why didn't they just put the engine in the front so I could just fit a nice simple FMIC

Re: Boot mount intercooler
I have that copy of Max Power
I would be lieing if I said after doing alot of research on rear mount turbos for front engined cars that the FMIC idea hadn't crossed my mind lol.

Re: Boot mount intercooler
What you need is a scoop underneath to catch the air and enter the boot then an escape route in the boot either in the boot lid or the rear panel!
This setup has been proven loads!

Got everything you need here! Also very negotiable on price!

Cheeky ad aside. I was going to vent air in from the floor and remove the centre panel for air to vent out. Either that or graft an engine lid into the boot lid so it follows the same style.
Also, BMIC = Sidemount!

Moving the intercooler into the boot leaves room for a tasty exhaust coming out of the side vent.
Re: Boot mount intercooler
Ahhh- I see, I missed that sidemount meant side exit exhaust, I thought you mind SMIC

Nice set up you have there jons and it would be perfect but I would be looking at 2nd hand used parts and seeing if it was possible to do for sub £100
Its does look lovely thou

Re: Boot mount intercooler
I'm not really understanding why you want a boot mount if you're not going for big power, all I can see you'll achieve is spending some money and losing a boot but not really gaining anything.

Re: Boot mount intercooler
There is more to life than power
If cooler air is better and I don't use the boot anyway and can be done for around the same price as an eBay SMIC and did I mention it looks cool

Yeah bootmounts looks the cats cods!
Re: Boot mount intercooler
It sounds like your thinking along the same lines as me with safer inlet temps being my goal i've hit 50c with my smic.
I ended up getting a st205 chargecooler kit. It was the amount of intercooler pipe work that put me off the bmic as im only running a ct20b.
I picked up a chargecooler, pump, rad, st185 throttle sock and expation tank for around 100 quid on ebay.
Just need a few more bits to install, hopefully all in about 60 quid should cover it.
Again just a thought.

Re: Boot mount intercooler
Charge cooler route is definately worth considering unless you are planning to run a significantly larger turbo- yes the BMIC looks cool, and will lower your IAT's, but in reality all you're going to achieve is a load more pipe work and the introduction of more lag.
But I do understand why you'd do it anyway, I'd just take the opportunity to either up your boost a bit or stick a larger capacity turbo in at the same time

Re: Boot mount intercooler
I would like a bigger turbo but then there is the internal upgrades.
Looked at charge cooling and yeah some look pretty, and as am still running standard ct26 a little bit of lag won't hurt.
And did I mention it looks cool lol.

Re: Boot mount intercooler
I think bootmounts dont generate that much more lag than a sidemount, maybe 300rpm spool diffrence at most!
