Rear shocks gone

Post by james123 »

Well the rear shocks need changing on my mr2, the car.is a mk1 b and it's got standard suspension, I've got koni adjustable shocks for just the rear in my garage, they currently have -35mm springs on them, would it be ok for me to run the standard front suspension with the konis on the rear with standard springs that are currently on the car??

Would it be ok to fit the konis with lowering springs on the rear with standard on the front?? Ovisiously the rear would sit lower than the front but would it done anything bad to the handling??
Also does anyone know Spec I tighten the 19mm strut bolt to??
No I didn't get that one, I ended up with a white mk1b tbar, was a bargain :)

I guess it would be okay, though it's not ideal. I think if it was a temporary measure then you'd be okay but you'd need to make sure you are aware of any handling idiosyncracies.

Torque for the strut bolts are 165lb/ft IIRC which is chuffing tight!

Putting the lowered springs will knock your headlight alignment out of spec as well. I'd stick with the stock springs or put the lowered ones on the front.

Okay I'll see if the standard springs are in good enough condition then!
One thing I'm confused about, obvisously the shock has failed cos it's bouncing everywhere! But it's also rattling and banging, when the car is on the floor when I shake the wheel the whole shock is moving from side to side and banging against the car!! Any ideas??

Top mounts for the damper may be gone.
