[Mk2] [Generic] Quick release

Post by KerryN »

I was looking into having a quick release steering wheel.
Currently aleady have an aftermarket boos and steering wheel in place. What i am unsure of is it a question of buying just the quick release boss or are there proper kits for the MR out there ?

Quiet like this, but unsure of compatability etc

The cheap ones are steering wheel bolt pattern specific, i.e. momo, sparco etc. Note that they can add 2-4" of column length, meaning you'll have less room, and you won't be able to reach the lights and wiper stalks like you used to.

The expensive, "professional" ones are universal and weld onto the column, and add virtually nothing to the length of the column.

I have a quick release steering wheel fitted to mine - way better than carrying a Krooklock lol

Its made by snapoff - its only 10 mm thick - and very good quality.

The only problem is finding a supplier - they are hard to get hold of...

Here you go:

But shop round I got mine for 50 notes...

I purchased my Snap Off and Momo from Demon Tweeks, although it is not the cheapest of places.

Sorry mate I can't find it either. Looks like they stopped selling it. I bought mine a few years ago.

Here's a video of the Snap Off. Watch from 1:13 onwards for a demo of how it works.

No play at all they are rock solid, the locking pins are tapered - so no chance of any play ;)

Not cheap - true - but you wont need a steering wheel clamp!

No they are secure mine has been on my cars since the early 90's, had different boss's and wheels but the same snap off. You can lock them on as well if wanted.

Does anyone have any experience with the NRG short hub (getnrg.com/products/quick-release-kits/short-hub/srk-120h)? It specifies compatibility with 90-93 models but shouldn't it fit all up to rev 5??
