[Mk2] [Generic] Turbo engine lid

Post by JohnnyC »

Finally got round to fitting my engine lid.
Bought from Rash in summer 2010 :thumleft:

Declared to insurance last year (on renewal) with intention of getting it sprayed professionally then fitted very soon.
Got a quote, but decided to have a go painting it myself.
It all seemed nice and smooth in once sanded down, even in primer.

Once painted though my sanding imperfections showed through (underside is much better as I sanded less).

Didn't bother too much with buffing up the lacquer as I realised it'll need doing professionally, but eventually got round to fitting anyway.

Colour match isn't too bad (Halfords rattle tins), probably just the lack of buffing the lacquer that lets the colour down most.
Overall, I won't be painting anything this big DIY. It needs leaving to the professionals :D

Good stuff mate, thought you were selling? :-k

Yeah, panels like that need painting professionally. Looks better than red though :oldtongue:

Possibly, really don't want to as I doubt I'll ever own a car anywhere near as reliable 8)
But I'd had the lid for 'years' and painted it months ago, just curiosity how it'd look :D

I've also just spent £176 at Toyota on 'bits & bobs' New fuel filter (£55  last one was only £35), new front strut gaitors (£70    ) and other bits to feed my OCD - like a new bleed nipple as the one on the refurbed caliper I put on recently has a 7mm nipple and the rest are 8mm #-o

At this rate I'll never afford a new car ](*,)

Looks good, good work.

The turbo lid is way better than the standard one in my opinion.
