[Mk2] [NA] rev3 na to tubby

Post by shoky »

hi newbie here in need of some advice from u folks. i recently bought a rev 3 na which has been good fun but could do with a few more ponies, so insted of tyring to modify the 3sge i decided to go turbo so i got myself a written off rev2 turbo doner car. i assume it will just bolt in as the chasis is the same but my question is will it plug and play or will i have do some wiring to get it working. thanks :thumleft: :thumleft:

Just change the engine loom. There will be a few wires to sort but nothing major.

I've done this exact swap already, yes you'll need the gear cables and as far as wiring goes, remember : Speedo is different, rear fogs are different. (And I'm sure there was something else...)

Either way, the wiring is the (Relatively) easy part of it :D

Correct.

Don't bother changing the body loom. Like i said, just the engine loom.

Issues you MIGHT have (from memory), will be starter relay earth and circuit opening relay.

Get the conversion done, plug the loom in, and turn the key. Any issues, come back here and we'll sort you out.

Also, you'll have no spark. Check back from the igniter to the fuse box.

hi guys, bolted the engine lump in eveything has plugged in except a few plugs. ive plugged in the ecu, the green relay and the grey box but im left with 2 plugs which dont plugs together. 1 from the engine loom and the other from the chasis loom int the boot also in the engine bay the is a grey round plug(4wire) and a 2 wire small plug which dont have anywhere to plug in. im not sure how to upload pics or else i would. not tried firing it up being a bit cautious dont want to end up frying up anything. thanks

Whereabouts are you based? If it's near Milton Keynes, you're welcome to check out the wiring on my tubby, as it should all be the same as your conversion.

edit : in fact, if you get your post count high enough and post pics of what areas you need to see 'plugged in', I'll be able to take pics and post those to show you how mine's done.

Depending on conversion, it may not be an issue. Get it started first.

Whereabouts in the engine bay are these plugs?

Grey 4 wire sounds like could be 02 sensor (near top of downpipe), or fuel pump relay (n/s rear bulkhead).

Is the two pin plug greay or blue?

Right, the first one (ECU) is bit of a mess with mine as I've got a HKS FCON too, which means I've got a lot more wires! This should hopefully give you some kind of indication though :

Second one, I couldn't really get a good picture of in the dark, but here it is anyway :

Probably no use due to the crappy lighting/me being unable to tidy the wires into a reasonable fashion at this time of night. If need be, I can take some more tomorrow evening when I'm home from work.

None whatsover. :?

I'd be getting it going as a stock install, then wire in your antique black boxes

It was already installed and mapped in the donor car, so it seemed silly to throw it in the bin instead of just... putting it in the car as it was in the other one ;)

Edit : I was in fact, actually worried that it may not work correctly or lose performance, if it were mapped with the FCON, then installed without it.
