Well a little more done today. Not much as I was busy driving around in the lovely weather :D lol

My cigarette lighter light has never worked. So I ripped out the old one and replaced it with a slightly larger one. I did try numerous different combinations of LEDs but they all blew. Eventually I gave up and I'm researching a replacement at the moment...

Image

I then set about attacking the old audio wiring:

Image

Here is my new lead ready to fit:

Image

Some of the old rubbish removed and prepped for the bin! lol

Image

I started to get there bit by bit:

Image

Image

I did look a lot better by the end - honestly! lol
The audio system fitted well but unfortunately my aerial is broken, so that is something else for the to do list!

I looked in the engine bay and started to notice small rusty parts that let it all down:

Image

Image

The clips are more than a little rusty in places:

Image

Image

So I thought in keeping with the other improved engine parts that I would spray them up to match the car. After a couple of hours of leaving them to dry, here they are fitted:

Image

Image

Image

Here is how my engine is sitting at the moment:

Image

Image

There will more than likely be a few more updates today - for the time being I'm off for another drive whilst the car is working brilliantly :D

Well I had planned to wire up my clock to an independant battery source as my loom had been cut out of my car. I sourced a new loom, and all of the battery components. Unfortunately its not working so I may need a bigger energy source - I'm going to test the output later today:

Image

Anyway having replaced the number plate bulbs and interior bulbs with LEDs I kept promising myself night shots. So here they are (excuse the poor phone pic quality)

Image

Image

My favourite pic is with the interior lights on looking into the car from the rear - it picks up on the tubby engine lid nicely. I really should crack my proper camera out at some stage! lol:

Image

Will endeavour to do more work tomorrow - I have a few plans involving my rear light centre panel that I want to put into action soon aswell :thumleft:

Only a mini update today as the parts that I've ordered haven't been delivered yet :( (and I did spend a lot of today driving around and once again making the most of this lovely weather :) )

I started by giving the inside a good clean out:

Image

I have been unhappy with the stickers on the tubby lid since I fitted it. So today I set about rectifying that.

Before:

Image

During:

Image

I can honestly say this took longer than I thought it would and 20 year old stickers are very hard to remove! lol

It still needs some work, but here is how it is sitting atm (a very bad photo as it was too sunny out believe it or not!):

Image

As my aerial is going to be replaced with a small light-weight version soon it had to be ripped out as well;

Image

Roll on getting my parts delivered and sorting out my clock :D

On my want list currently is a new gear surround (I'm not a fan of the Richbrook selector) and also some fitted mats... hhhhmmmm

I have been considering it, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make. I will have to do some research...

Only another mini update :D

This morning I bought the following parts to be fitted ...

A Celica VVTI leather steering wheel:

Image

A full set of mudflaps (although I only need the fronts)

Image

And I'm in two minds as to if I will fit this part (and if I did weather or not I would colour code it ...) A rev3 splitter:

Image

So today I did this quickly to my interior:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then came the mudflaps:

Image

Image

Image

And then came the other side:

Image

Image

Image

And yes I know the wheels are crying out for a refurb! lol
Might get a little bit more time away from the partner to work on the car again later :D

Looking good karl, I'm jealous of that steering wheel though!

Steering wheel and mudflaps look good :thumleft:

Did you use the short loom from your old steering wheel to connect up the horn

You should have told me that Clive was after your old wheels and I could have dropped them off

Cheers mate - it won't be long and we will get one sorted for your car too

I agree that the calipers do need painting as a matter of urgency. lol. I think that silver is the way forward :D

Thanks bud - its slowly getting there.

The wheel is connected,, but the horn isnt! lol. I had a MOMO wheel fitted before and don't have the original fitting, so was a little unsure of how to wire the horn in. I've sent you a PM :D

In relation to the wheels - it completly slipped my mind to be honest! I need to make a trip up to see clive at some stage anyway as he has so many parts that I want, lol. By that stage I'm bound to have lots more wheels for him anyway

Next time you drive up, it'll have to be in your car :D

Another small update before I go to work again.

Although I had fitted the MK3 steering wheel, the horn unit did not work :(
Everyone else that had fitted one of these had managed to fit it to a rev3 or above which has a different steering coloumn section to my rev1.

The rev3+ horn unit is a wire that runs from the steering coloumn to the horn. In the rev1s it is a small brass pin that when depressed makes a circuit. Unfortunately it doesn't touch anything on a MK3 wheel! lol. Notice the brass pin near the top right of the steering coloumn;

Image

So I hacked about with a few bits that I had lying around and created this:

A metal insulated back plate with a live wire coming off of it that I would attach to the horn:

Image

Image

Image

Here is a test fitting:

Image

I mounted this behind the wheel and attached the wire to the relevant part of the horn and - voila! One working horn :D

The steering wheel swap was complete :thumleft:

I then got a few of my outstanding parcels delivered from the postie today :D

The first was a set of luggage holders for my boot area :D

Image

I had measured out the recesses in the boot and bought these especially. They are made from the same carpet so wouldn't stand out and are attached by numerous strips of velcro so they can be removed easy enough without leaving marks.

My boot went from this (full of bits to fit!)

Image

To this:

Image

I've managed to fit one either side, and I think you'll have to admit that they look quite good :D

Image

I then turned my attention to the other part that had been delivered today:

Image

I felt that I needed a sunstrip, but the one that I had attached was a little too in your face and chav! I want a more OEM one which blended into the windscreen, hence this purchase.

Here is my old one:

Image

Old one removed after some swearing at it:

Image

Image

And the new one fitted:

Image

Image

Image

Image

It doesn't look that different in the photos but makes a huge change in real life!

Thats it for today as I have to get to work now :D

Hopefully tomorrow the postie will bring some of the 9 parcels that I waiting for! lol

You're such an old man with those saddlebags in your boot Karl!! :eye:
Did a good job with that sunstrip though, they're really fiddly to get all the bubbles out of arent they.

Well its been a busy few days on the car - only hampered by a lack of parts from the postie! lol

Recently I've taken delivery of the following:

A new high power aerial:

Image

Leather gear gaitor:

Image

And its plastic surround...

Image

Some silver caliper paint

Image

A slimline 12" fan which I intend to fit inbetween the engine lid and rain tray:

Image

And a fixing kit for the above fan, (which I don't inted to use)

Image

This is how my gear gaitor and surround looked before. I've been trying to get rid of the chrome and get it back to being more original as you all know. So the Richbrook surround and chrome section at the bottom of the gearknob had to go...

I also wasn't happy with how tall my rev1 gearstick was - but this would have to be a job for another day

Image

Image

A two minute switch over and I was left with this:

Image

I think it looks a lot neater and more original :D

I then set about sorting out my calipers and their sliders. I disconnected all of the callipers, took out the brake pads and painted up the parts independantly. Here is how they were looking before having been rubbed down in preperation for the paint:

Image

Image

Here they are part way through painting:

Image

Image

And the finished product:

Image

One side done:

Image

The aerial then got fitted behing the dash so that its not at all visible and it works brilliantly! :thumleft:

I then used this:

Image

To turn this:

Image

Into this:

Image

Here is how the car is looking atm:

Image

I then also took delivery of this, a lovely short shift kit :D

This would help with the gearknob being ridiculously tall, and should also help with being able to get rid of the chrome MOMO gearknob sheath

Image

I wish I read some how-to's in relation to fitting this part! I just used common sense, got a little bit lost with it and it seemed to take forever!! There were a few times where I was sat in a heap of parts that I couldn't fit back together and wondered if it would ever work again

Here are some photos of how it was looking during the switch over process:

Image

Image

Image

New and old - you can see that there is a hell of a difference :

Image

The new one part way through fitting:

Image

Image

Ensuring that everything is greased nicely for smooth gear changes:

Image

Image

Image

Almost there:

Image

I removed the centre from the original leather trim section:

Image

And here is how its looking currently:

Image

Image

I'm now on the look out for an original gearknob as I think it will both look better and be more secure :thumleft:

I then straightened up one of my headlight covers (I couldn't do both as one of the bolts on the other side sheared off and the other three don't want to move! That will be a job for another day)

Image

Then came the compulsary test drive :D
