Advice On Possible New Car.

Post by david240968 »

I am going to look at this car on Sunday and thought I'd ask you guys what you think of the price and condition etc. What would you expect to pay for this taking into account the age and condition. Any comments would be appreciated. Also not seen this colour in the flesh, is it ok?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Low mileage for the age! 108K. Interior seems to agree with mileage. No rips on seats etc.

Car itself looks clean, go and have a look and a test drive. :thumleft:

Car looks good though :)

It looks like a nice clean example, and everything seems to be relatively original, (other than the obvious such as wheels, front number plate, etc...) The interior seems nice and clean, and if he's being honest about the service history then thats also good.

If you see it, ensure to check the rear sills and arches for rust as these go very easily and can cost a lot to repair. Also it states the cam belt was replaced, but when?

In the current market personally I think its a little bit overpriced. I wish that MR2s were still selling for these prices. Admittedly it looks like a clean example, personally would price this around the £1200 mark. He is looking for low end tubby money at that price I think.

Have you looked at the cars for sale on here?

Even on pistonheads, for example have you seen this, it will give you an idea as to price. Lower mileage, good condition with tax and mot. It would take £100 tops to sort out yourself:

Just my 2p. At the end of the end a car is only worth what someone will pay for it, and it looks good :thumleft:

I don't think 1600 quid is bad for a 108K rev4!

Yeah, it says cambelt down 1000 miles ago. I'd be after a receipt showing the date too.

As Karl says, check for arch corrosion.

Looks like a decent enough buy to me for a rev4 if it's a good in the flesh as it looks in the pics. still go take a look and haggle if you find anything, buyer market at the mo.

Sure there's a buyer guide on here in the knowledge base too, have a read through and check everything when you see the car.

Good luck...

Thanks for the input. It's been a while since I last had an mr2 and the market has changed a lot since then. Anyone have any comments about the colour, as I said, I've not seen Goodwood Green in the flesh. :thumleft:

Goodwood green is a cracking colour for the MR2.

Check the colour code on the VIN plate to make sure it's not been resprayed a different colour.

Open frunk, on the wheel well wall nearest you, there will be a VIN plate. look for "6M1" under colour :thumleft:

No bother dude, if you're serious about buying it after seeing it, it'd be a good idea to do a HPI check and also have an MR2 specialist to check it out for you if possible.

Also check the VIN number matches the relevant docs etc.

All the best fella!

Err, Luke at Pacific Works has a sonic shadow rev 4 for sale at the mo. Have a look back in the for sale section and it's there somewhere. I've seen it and it looks and sounds in really good nick... You'd also get the option of changing spec a bit since Luke has all sorts of bits lying around he could include for you if modding was your plan.

Thanks for all the replies. Think I've got it sorted now. Picking up a rev 5 t-bar in red on Saturday. Mint condition with full service history and only 71,000 miles with old mots to confirm. It's getting a new cambelt thurs and I'm going to get her on Saturday. Can't wait although I've got a monster travel for it. Going from Eastbourne to Barnsley and back again. Yuk.
