MKI Rear Tie Rod (Pair) January group buy

Post by gon »

Hi all.
I know this is not the correct section to put this topic but I have no permission to post in the GB section.

Hi all.
Here I am organizing my first group buy

First things first.
This group buy will only go through if we get 5 or more participants.

The parts will be purchased from SBITS / Peter Gidden.
Although I do not know Peter personally I have done some research and he has excellent feedback from his costumers and he has been trading for at least 7 years.

here are some pictures of the parts in question.

Tie bars are all stainless, and are full kits. Including new outer track rod ends, spherical inner bearings and spacers.
The group buy is for the pair, if you wish to join please reply to this topic and don't forget to mention if your vehicle is a mk1a or mk1b

as money goes:
1-5 sets £125/set
5-8 sets £115/set
9+ sets £107/set

These prices are including individual UK shipping costs....

This group buy will close in the end of January. If we have enough participants the parts will be ordered first week in February, if not then the participants should contact Peter directly if they are still interested.

Just a little question... What happend to the bushing?
Image

I suppose the small cilinder next to the rod is a spacer to keep the rod in place.
Thanks to clear me out!
Any of the other forum users installed those?Any opinion?

Cheers,

Frank

the bushing is not used.
a spherical inner bearing is used instead.
if you look closely on the fisrt picture you can see it.
It comes with 2 spacers to keep the spherical inner bearing centred.

They replaced the standard one with a teflon packed rod end, it does the job but should probably be covered with something to prevent grit getting into the joint.

That's probably the only weak point in the design.

I've got them on my car but can't really say much about them beyond the fact that they're very pretty and easy to adjust.

From what i understand..

early mk1s had a bush, mk1bs moved to a bearing, which will have no flex.

The tiebars from sbits have a bearing, hence look different to the top one

Somebody correct me if i am wrong!

Assuming the exact same picture used, are those the same as sold on twosrus.com ? http://twosrus.com/catalog/product_info ... cts_id=253

if so, i would be fool to purchase them in the US and have them shipped to EU, since they are originally from EU already :)

as for the protection, these boots are made for walkin' ;) http://mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.ph ... t&catId=36

i am in as soon as we agree on some decent shipping to my place. PM sent

Exactly the same ones, I believe Peter (sBits) gets them in bulk from the States, so t'other way round.

Like the link for the booties, I may get myself a few of them as I need them for my droplinks as well. :thumleft:

Correct :thumleft:

BTW, AFAIK, no one, anywhere, has ever had to replace the spherical bearings due to wear.

sorry to state the obvious but it might help someone. The Mk1a are longer than the M1b you can not make them fit if you but the wrong ones.

Hi Peter :)

I was about to text you but since you are here ... there a question for you :oldtongue:

the prices that you gave, do they include individual shipping to all the participants (within the uk) or just shipping of all the parts to one single location ??

I'm tempted to take it off and use a hammer on it, it looks like its bent on the thread and not on the pipe :(
