Hello all,
Thought id take the time to introduce myself here, iv just bought myself a nice red Mk1 Mr2 (1989), totally standard. Pretty much rust free, which is a bonus.
Had the car for about a month now and loving it.
Don't plan on doing too much 'modifying' to it, just fitted the K&N 57i induction today so il have some fun with that, then perhaps just a new exhaust at some point.
Just one issue with the gearbox/clutch i need to sort out, but im sure il find the answer on here so not too worried.
Any meets in the North of Scotland area anytime? Would be good to see some others and what they've done to theirs.

Welcome Andy
Largely rust free Mk 1s are pretty rare
What's your gearbox/clutch issue ?

Hi Peter,
Thanks, yeh so i hear, it's got a tiny bit (inch) of rust/bubbling on the rear passenger panel so pretty happy with it.
Just been having a search on the forum for a solution, basically when parking the other day i went to select first, but the gearbox jammed out of gear, couldn't select first, or any other gear, happened again today when changing into second.
Luckily iv never been anywhere too dangerous when its happened so im now wondering whether its a lower speed thing aswel??

Re: New Scottish Member!
I'd say check your selector cables and that the selectors can work.

Re: New Scottish Member!
Yes id be interested to find a cure aswel, haha.
Was thinking the selector cables, but would this explain its inconsistencies? How at other times it has no problems at all selecting?
Il look into it more when i have the time, also not the best time of year to be rolling around under cars.
Will get some pics up soon (i know we've all seen the mk1 before), but this one's mine!!

Hi Andy
It could be the rubber gromets at the nds of the selector cables (gear box end) which can fail.

Photos...
Finally got a chance to give it a proper clean today, so thought id take some photos so in the future i can remember what it looks like clean.
^^^some arch rust on this side, about an inch at the top but nothing to worry about^^^
K&N sent a little present the other week which iv only just got around to putting on the car, good fun playing around with all the sucking noises it makes. :p

Car looks good Andy
I like the Mk1 in SuperRed
Have you put the K&N in the boot or on the throttle body?
Those 57i kits for the 1b can be very expensive (£100 ish ?)
Ive seen a 1a kit for as little as £41

Yeh, its good fun, keeps me off the T-vis (sometimes). Put it straight on the throttle body Peter, really £100, think i picked this one up for around the £60ish mark. Wouldnt have been so interested for £100

Thanks, iv found it very useful so far, so will be good to meet others and find out more about these cars.
oooh throttle bodys will be fun, im planning on just sticking with the K&N for now, only plans are really to maybe get some Brembos when these disc's need a change and a new exhaust, again once the one its currently running needs changed.

Any plans to stick a MK2 Turbo engine in there? As you've probably guessed, I love the MK1.5 conversion!
Re: New Scottish Member!
No plans as of yet for an engine conversion. I have looked into it but only on the cards once i get bored or the current one gives up.
Although saying that i have been spending alot of time on www.woodsport.org, so the urge may get the better of me...
Wouldn't say no to a v6 conversion...
