Alternator-crank pulley needed urgently South Manchester!!

Post by bobbyh »

My weekend MK1b has been pressed into service as a daily 100 mile commute driver, and has been making strange light rattling noises. Thought to be exhaust manifold cracking.

I took it to a recommended garage at lunch, and they diagnosed the rubber in the centre of the alternator crank pulley was shot.

(oddly the car has started 'hunting' on idle really strongly this morn too?)

I've had to leave it there..

Toyota want £240 PLUS VAT for a new one!!

I can get one from a Scrappie for £50, but won't be able to collect untill sat, meaning the car would be stuck at work all weekend.

Does anyone in the Greater Manc area have one lying around I could buy and collect this week?

Cheers Bobby.

I did say the noise could be absolutely anything, glad you found it though.

Sorry, are you after a crank pulley or an alternator pulley?

Try the wanted section, also try the mk1club, anyone breaking a car could supply one.

Try ollie@skyinsurance. I bought mine from him when mine disintegrated and he said he had a few on various engines :)

I did ask Mark, what we had left, but only have SC crank pulleys, well apart from the NA one which is on my engine of course.

Sorry, shame as we are probably round the corner from you (Heald Green).

you need to find out what has caused it to delaminate first before you fit another pulley, or it will just happen again, options are alternator seizing, water pump seizing or belt over or under tensioned

spin both the water pump and the alternator to make sure they are running free, it will cost you nothing
