90k miles, not sure on cambelt history so going to change it

Post by g.lewarne »

I just have one question, im sure i know what yourt all going to say but wanted to ask anyway-

i have two options from my favourite garage

1) supply+fit cambelt kit, not including water pump £180 all in
2) as above but including water pump - £210 all in

Will be a gates cambelt kit, and a blueprint waterpump.

Are these fair prices, and would you get the water pump changed? my current one is quiet and i dont loose a drop of coolant?

For £30 extra do the pump :)

Those are rather bargainous prices there!

Had mine done recently, cam belt and pulley kit, water pump, flush off coolant and new coolant cost me £261

So yours sounds like a bargain :thumleft:

These are all very good prices, I did my own when I bought the car thinking 'its only a 4 pot how hard can it be' I would have paid that amount easily for the job.

I did the tappets aswell though but that was easy compared to getting the belt cover and bits off and back on.

I need to do my pump now because the monkey who belted it before I brought it didn't bother.

When I had my engine out at Pacific Works for a clutch change Luke spotted I had a slight oil leak so I bought an Oil pump, Clutch Kit, Water Pump and the Timing belt kit and a full samco hose kit.
Bit extreme but I thought what the hell but I would deffo get the water pump done for peace of mind for the same reason your changing your timing belt kit. :thumleft:

ps My spark plugs are going well.
Getting a new dizzy cap/arm soon so should keep the Cosmos running sweet. 8)

wow, that lot must have cost a bit! glad the plugs are doing well - do you find they make throttle response peppier?

It did cost me over £500 odd in parts plus fitting but I thought....engines out..peace of mind for a while.....then I sold the car to help get my mortgage on my home.

Plugs are doing well. Car's economy is brilliant...so a sure sign it's running lovely.
Doesn't use a single drop of oil (never had an MR2 like that) and the dizzy cap/arm should finish things nicely.

Are you going to buy you timing belt kit and water pump from camskill?
They seem to be about the cheapest.
IIRC they are Blueprint parts too.

Need to get my cam belt done soon. My local garage has quoted a decent labour price to change the belt and water pump. I'm going to get the parts myself, only questions is where from? Do I visit Mr Toyota Parts Dept, or can anyone recommend another supplier?

Cheers in advance :thumleft:

Try tcb parts, camskill or rogue motorsport.
