mk1B front droplinks

Post by PsychomIKE »

Hi, can anyone confirm for me what length the front droplinks for the mk1B should be? I bought some off ebay but I'm not entirely sure I've been sent the rear's and my car is going to the garage tomorrow for work to be done.

Mine measure 20.5 cm for the actual tube between the links.

Thanks

Sounds about right, fronts should be about 240mm between the two mounting points with both mounting points facing the same way. Rears are either 180mm (mk1a) or 152mm (mk1b) with the mounting points 180 opposed to each other.

The ebay droplinks are not that great in terms of quality. Expect them to start knocking in no time at all. When you get around to replacing them again in a few months, don't skimp, get Toyota ones - it will be cheaper and easier in the long run :thumleft:

Toyota are £80-£90 each last time i checked! Just use ford focus ones, less than £10 each and i have had no problems with them, for that price you could replace the droplinks 8 or 9 times compared to genuine Toyota ones.... no contest.

Would there be an advantage in using rose jointed drop links ?

Not really because once they grit in them they won't last long.

The OEM ones are best but most won't buy them as they are around £50 each.

Yes, 50 hard earned quids a pop is very steep but thats Mr T for you eh ?

For the relatively small amount of use my car gets at the mo am tempted to try rose joints

Stubborrn as usual

Having said that though, my car has only done 59K from new & has original drop links which still seem good

Well, fit and forget pretty much. Think my new Toyota ones were used on all three of my MK1's over a 5 year period! Not too bad value when you look at it that way.

Track rod ends ?

Boondougal had some off eBay but they sent wrong ones

We thought they were Mk2 in Mark1 boxes

IIRC he got some from his local Factor in the end

Whiteline do some, they arn't cheap though!

I have a set and they look the buisness, just make sure you get dust boots for any rod end type ones and even then they may fail prematurely with road use.

Any car fitted with an ARB has a droplink on each end of it Bobby

They connect each end of the bar to the strut on the Mk1

They have a rubber insert at each end

It wears & they are no longer efficient

It's normally because they fit cheap ones that don't last five minutes. ;)
