[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 1 Gearbox/Speedo Problem

Post by samu23 »

Hi

I have been having issues with my rev 1 speedo for a while, so bought a new speedo sender, and fitted that. After that i soon realised it is not the sender that it broken its the little blue ring just inside the gearbox is slipping and not spinning the cog on the sender. I put a drill on the cable and the clocks are working fine.

So I bought a new gearbox (rev 2) for a good price, im not sure if it has LSD I will upload a pic later. How hard is it to change a gearbox, possible to do it on a driveway? And guides anywhere? The BGB looked quite helpful, but any first hand advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

lol...it's not easy mate, I did mine in a field with trolley jacks and wood etc so it is possible, but if your not a competant mechanic, take it to a pro....Sbits...Pacificworks etc.
in short, for a quick guide...
jack car up a lot on the rear, axle stands, remove wheel/suspension/driveshaft, drop engine down on the left side, unbolt and remove gbox....obv a whole heap of pipes and ancilleries to remove/replace as well, coolant loss, if you leave the box hanging on the clutch it'll fk it, mayaswell change the clutch while your there....make a map of which bolt goes where on the box.
