[Mk2] [Turbo] Eprom No 42

Post by vmaxnick »

I'm getting a 4-2 warning from my EMS which seems to make sense as thats a no speed indiacator and my speedo drive has just broken. Thing is, I'm probably being a plank here but, my rev 2 tubby has a cable driven speedo so how does it know the speedos packed up? Is it using the force or is the problem elsewhere?

Rev2 isn't cable driven!

In which case, I must have a rev 1 because it is cable driven

The cable runs to the back of the speedo cluster where it's converted to an electronic signal, and then fed to the power steering (if you have it) and main engine ECUs. That's how it can tell, it's not receiving a signal anymore :)

You Sir are a star and a scholar!
I have been sitting here with my head in my hands since your previous post as I had spent quite some time researching what rev my Tubby was so as to not look a knob when posting on forums or buying parts!
Using various resources I had come to the conclusion it was a rev 1 as it was manufactured in 91 JDM. However, I was in the hands of an "Expert" when buying brakes, clutch, timing belt and engine ancilliaries. He assured me that it's a rev 2 and to be fair, everything he supplied fitted!
You have explained my most important worry about the engine management code.
Could you advise on how I get a definitive answer on what rev it is.
For the record it is an SW20 has a CT26 Cerramic twin entry turbo did have the rubber trims with TURBO in hint of body colour, did have a 3 piece spoiler
Is it a rev 1 or 2? anything else I need to check to be sure?

If the rev2 brake parts fitted, it may have had the later, larger brakes retrofitted. It should have a smaller front splitter too but again this often gets changed.

Have you got the frame number handy (SW20-00xxxxx) and I'll tell you for definate.

I'm not working at this time of day Bob

I won't have an MR2 for much longer though so you'll lose out then! You'll be pleased to know we are both retaining our Toyota parts discounts though :)

Toyota are doing very well from me this year so far and now have two engines to build so lots more to buy.

Why giving up the MR2?

Yeah Si even runs his own parts department now on the profits from us

Time to move on. I need some contacts from you when I get going, need a decent place for getting heads gas flowed / ported etc. You mentioned a guy in Oxford last time we spoke I think?

There is a place I'm gonna try where I live that built the Avensis touring cars too
