Rev 2 splitter on a Rev 1 bumper... how easy/hard?

Post by Tellso »

Hi, ive gone and bought myself a Rev1 tubby. Love everything about it but ive always had Rev2 + because i prefer the deaper bumper.

How easy is it to get the lower bumper spoiler or splitter (whatever you want to call it  ) and fit it to a Rev1 bumper? I had a quick look at the parts catalogue thingy :-k and it seems theyre quite different to one another i.e. the Rev1 goes quite far back almost like a tray whereas the Rev2 seems to just be almost an apron that goes around the bottom of the bumper.

I know it probably seems easier to replace the whole bumper but i cant imagine takling the whole bumper off will be that easy plus, with my luck i wont be able to get the new one back on!

Cheers in advance

If you can get a bumper with a rev2+ splitter on it in the colour you need I'd change the whole lot.
If you want to put the splitter on your rev1 bumper I'm willing to bet nearly every stud that is on the plates that sandwich the splitter and bumper together will shear as they rust like mad.
If you have to you can still use the original plates, but drill holes where the studs used to be and put stainless M6 bolts through.

Hope that helps

Yeah as uglee says, you get a spanner anywhere near the existing bolts and they'll snap :(

whats it matter if the bolts snap?

half the time i find it quicker to snap the old bolts and replace with new nuts and bolts.

Depends if you have the tools to do the job and that the original plates survive been seperated from the original bumper in the first place. The 2 or 3 I've seperated haven't survived.

Can get new ones from Toyota if you're feeling flush. :thumleft:
