[Mk2] [Turbo] High Rev Missfire/Shuddering

Post by mouley1989 »

Hi guys.

I recently did a service on my Rev 3 Turbo and ever since at high RPM in 3rd,4th & 5th i notice a missfire or some sort of shuddering and lack of power which im guessing is a missfire.
Its not always that noticable but there is a definate loss of power.

The parts i used were from from this site.

HT Leads
NGK spark plugs
Distribution Cap + Rotor

www.twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.ph ... f7fcf9d258

With the HT leads came two other leads, which i fitted one as a replacement king lead as it had exactly the same connections and was the same length. But there is still another lead left which i dont know where it goes.

I have swapped the king lead back to the orignal which made the problem feel worse so i put the new one back on for now.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks Guys

Andy

Could it be clutch? Slipping at higher RPM?

I had a similar problem a while ago, but a bit more severe. The power would just die once the car was under any sort of load(usually at high revs). Turned out to be my Mass Air flow sensor had got water in it and was rusted inside. A poke about with a screwdriver and a tonne of WD40 sorted it. It may help to have a look at it. But, as it all started after you changed the plugs, leads and dizzy cap and rotor I wouldn't bet on it. Just throwin it out there.

King lead is a common prob here matey...I've gone through 3 used ones and am about to buy a new set of OEM leads.

Did you reset/check the timing correctly?

I had exactly the same symptoms and after much searching and replacing of parts turned out to be a cracked ignition coil…
Good luck tracing the fault :thumleft:

Any joy finding the problem as I have the exact same thing, mine started after getting the engine out to do the head gasket . Seems to be so many things it could be
