rev5 turbo price

Post by Rossi »

Hi,

I'm arranging to go look at a rev5 turbo hopefully next week, just wondering what peoples opinion are on pricing. I'm hoping to a knock a little bit off as the timing belt will need doing in the next few thousand miles. This is the car and I haven't really seen it before on the forums.

I've never really looked at rev5s before, usually just rev3 turbos which seem to sit between 3 and 4.5k. Is 8k too much? Also do all rev5 turbos have traction control or was it an option because I don't really like the added weight of stuff I won't use.

String money, but does look the part. Although I have got to love this part:

still practical given the size of the boot and bonnet space - my 5 year old loves it!.

Poor kid having to ride in the frunk!!!

Has to be said though, nice car!
But, if the speedo has been altered to read mph, then the odometer will increase in miles as well, on top of original km's.

Looks like a nice clean example, but that is a lot of money imo...

I reckon it's £1000 over the price of a bog standard car of that age and mileage from recent investigations on Pistonheads. I guess it really depends on whether you think the Toms kit, exhaust and suspension are worth it? It does look both clean and rather pretty.

I seen a rev5 with a nice airwalker kit rev 5 T plate go for 4500-5k with low miles, apparently its very clean as well. I would give 6k very tops for this

That's what I thought I guess, I've convinced my self it's worth it because it's the exact spec I want but the reality is I'd be ripping myself off. I'd probably go for it at 7k though even if it is still paying over the odds. Hmmmm

Just make sure timing belt, clutch all brakes and shocks are spot on. For example it one on those coilovers is seized, leaking, id imagine it would be v expensive to sort it. You can easily spend £££ getting the car right, and its troo easy to get carried away and not check the car over properly in a moment of excitement. Has it got a cat2 immob at least?

rev5s are few are far between.
you hardly ever see any for sale, hense the high prices (which is understandable)...

whether or not you could get them for 5-6k a couple of years back makes no odds, they are not available like they used to be before the recession due to yen to pound and ZERO being imported over. (and there were very few imported over even before that anyhow).
not forgetting that 10 year import rule which ment having to wait till 2008 to import over 1998 turbos/beams models.
if anything, prices have increased. which is nice

Price may have increased but it's not like you have a massive market to sell to, the market for MR2s is pretty limited, the market for MR2s costing £7k+ is even smaller!

Speaking for myself I just couldnt imagine paying 3-4k over and above what a decent rev3/4 cost just to get a Rev5.

Oh indeed, no problem with people wanting to buy a Rev5, I just think its a massive premium for not alot of gain :thumleft:

I suppose it depends what you want. For me I want an unmolested pristine example of a car! I realise that mods already fitted would save me a ton of money but the MR2 is a car I don't intend to sell so it doesn't matter too much on the time frame for modding (that and I probably wouldn't ever go more than 300BHP - achievable with bolt on mods I believe :?: )

I've seen this car and it is nice. Very nice. But at the £8k price point I'd rather just import myself even if it means an extra £2k more than the £8k one.

Bingo :)

For £8k I'd rather have a low low mile STi 6 Type R, or an EVO 8 or something like that, but yeah as you say, each to their own.

Not sure I understand, you'd be willing to pay £2k more just to be the first UK owner of a car?

Ha. Re-reading my post I guess I do sound bonkers!

I meant that I woudl pay more over this one if it meant it ticked all my boxes (i.e. concours-esque, low miler).

The fresh import becomes a moot point given that it all comes down to the owner(s). Though it would be nice to have a 'one owner' car!

Hmm you've seen the car, what was the fitment of the kit like? I've got my heart set on the car as Cosmos is my favourite colour and converting a uk rev5 is not an option as I hate T-bars!

If I can get him down to around the 7k mark then I'll probably buy it, there just seems to be a real lack of pristine mr2s about right now in the colours I'm after. Mine was showing its age when I bought it and a lot of the cars around the 3-4k mark are in the same condition as mine so no real point in going for one of them.
