It runs!

Post by Jonjeffryes »

Three months, two weeks from the day I bid and won the replacement engine on EBAY, I finally have a fully running engine installed and I'm well pleased.

I took a huge risk buying from the web.....you hear all sorts of horror stories....and especially as I was buying an engine that had not run for at least two years; the vendor had bought it to replace the engine in his own car which he ending up scrapping due to rust in the sills.

After a false start with no sparks due to missing one loom connection on the loom, the engine burst into life...no smoke, no nasty noises....it sat there idling away beautifully smoothly.

I've now run it through cold start/ warm up/ cool down cycles and then through hot start tests and all seems well with just one or two small issues.

I have a small oil leak from the front vertical face of the sump nearest the cam belt. This is due to corrosion....so I'm in the market for a replacement sump.

Also the clutch slave failed as soon as I put my foot on the pedal..so a new unit will be fitted. not too bad as the car has sat in my lock up garage for over a year.

All that remains is a thorough overhaul of the brakes/handbrake. Replacement drop links and a thorough service and clean...and then the dreaded MOT.....

The car in front might just be a Toyota again...very soon!

Well I'm getting there...spent this evening working on the rear brakes. The car's sat for a year now and everything needs a good sort out......i'got to say getting the rear calliper mounting bracket on to the hub was a real swine...took ages to get the bolts to thread

Yeah, I remember that from when I built my 1380 A series from the bare block upwards!

Well done on the swap though, especially in such a confined garage, I've been following your progress/posts as well. Not long to go now until you can take it for a blast and take pleasure from all your efforts :thumleft:

Yes We're getting close...damn work keeps getting in the way though....

It should be ready just in time to take my Fiat Coupe Turbo off the road for a damn good service and overhaul
