[Mk2] [Turbo] burning smell for drivers side of engine ?

Hello guys and gals , i have a slight problem with my 2.

went for a drive today and have had a strange ticking noise for past month that goes away after 5 mins of driving which i thought could be my fan belt so bought new belt(yet to be fitted tho) ,now i have this strange burning smell from drivers side engine . does anybody have any thoughts on what it could be as realy freaking me out lol. car runs fine just smelly ](*,)

Oil leaking from the cam cover gasket onto the alternator and burning off.

Thanks :thumleft: will have a look at that as my alt is covered in oil :oops:

Check the screws that hold it down,

Get some of these

Oh and use some of this in the corners around the arched bits.

Thanks again lewis iv got the new rocker screws and gasket already on the car but there is a little oil from right bottom of rocker cover i can see.

Was it sealed propery round the edges were the rounded sections are?

yeah...it will leak if you havn't sealed the cam corners with a pea sized blob of silicone, as Lewis has pointed out...did the exact same thing when I first bought my 2.

Oil leaking onto the alternator is a brilliant way to kill the alt BTW! Budget for replacing it in the next 12 months...
