Hi folks,
Having only ever had a tintop Rev3 turbo, i wondered what if any, are the differences in Acceleration, weight and handling between the two ?

not a grate deal really just the t-bar is awesome for summer i love mine
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
Have you had a tin top though ?
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
nope
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
Naff all difference on the road between the 2 variants to be honest.
It's a straight 50/50 for me between t-bar and tin top. It's fantastic to get the roof off on a warm summers day, but it's also nice now not having a soggy seat or trying to stop water dripping on my arm while driving along.

Oh, the T-Tops leak then ?
Screw that, had that before with a different car. Mould anyone ?

Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
one of the main reasons I got an MR2 was that I could get a t-bar...
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
I was never after a t-bar as we only seem to get 3 days of sun in this country a year. However - I have to say - when I needed to get my snowboard to a friends house the other day it came in to its own! No way I would have been able to get it into a tin-top.
Just putting an alternate view on the advantages (especially, if like me, it's your only car!)

To keep the interior dry with T-Tops, ideally all the rubbers need to be kept soft and plyable. This is best done while the T-Tops are off the car so you can apply proper rubber care stuff to as much of the rubber surfaces as possible. I do this about 3 or 4 times a year as it is a lot lot cheaper than buying new tbar rubbers!
Using normal car wash on the rubbers does not stop the rubbers from going hard and shrinking over time, eventually resulting in slight gaps where the rubber surfaces make contact with each other or where the side windows are suppsed to contact the rubbers.
Apart from that, just need to put them on straight, perhaps manipulating the rubber by hand so there are no gaps where the rubber surfaces make contact with each other or along the edge of the window glass. Its a bit fiddly until you get the hang of it.
Well worth it in summer. A shiny MR2 with the Tbars off and windows down is still a real head turner even from people in more modern and much more expensive convertibles.
With the Tbars on, the cabin feels more spacious with more natural light compared to other cars with a sunroof or hardtops.
Dont forget the sunglasses!

Its nice and easy to sort the t-bar if it leaks.

Agreed...
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
personally i think the tintop cars look better, that said the t-bars in summer must be bice
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
I think the t-bar looks better, just a lump of painted metal on top insted of a nice feature
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
to me the tintop looks better as i think thats the appeal, less fussy.
also i think the car looks lower when you stand next to it - trick of the eye obviously

Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
Its like you say each to there own, but the apeal of a mr2 is to have a t-bar as most cars are tin top (my option)
Re: T-Top vs Tin Top
isnt the t-bar the heaviest mk2 - not forgetting its the type that gave the mk2 hairdresser status
ill run off now ta.................

Yeah you run off chuffin hairdresser car. t-bar is lighter if you take the roof off and leave it at home
