weird crystal stuff in coolant system

I found this weird sugary stuff in the thermostat housing - I'm presuming it's crystalised coolant of some kind and is lurking in the various channels in my engine...



Interestingly it was only accumulating on the back of the Thermostat and on the aluminium housing, not in the rubber hoses. There is also evidence of this stuff in the expansion bottle.

I'm going to be doing a coolant flush this weekend when I fit a new rad - How can I dissolve this alien weirdness from the coolant channels that I can't reach?

how long have you had the car ?
you mention you are replacing the radiator.
looks like the previous owner has put some sort of rad seal
in the system.
a good coolant system flush should get rid of the $hite. hth. paul.

I've only had it a few months but it was laid up over winter - I have another post about the overheating issue I have that I'm in the process of resolving.

Is there anything I should add to to the coolant system before, or while, I flush it with good clean h20?

i would reccomend using, a coolant system flush that you add to the system.
have a look in halfrauds or your local motor factors.
