I also had my inlet manifold powder coated, I don't need to bin that do I?!

It was masked off, but I'm concerned now - I don't want to trash my engine for a bit of bling!

Lauren, did you ever manage to get the baffles re-attached after drilling the rivets?

Yes we did, we drilled and tapped them and did it that way. :+:

Ive personally lost an engine due to this. When I was getting it rebuit, we had to drill the rivets of the baffles, then literally scoop out the sand ( even after it'd been in parts cleaner twice!) then cleaned it again. Once we were happy, I drilled & tapped were the rivets were and fastened the baffles in with loctited screws.
Would I ever do it again? Nope.

Might just buy another rocker cover tbh. Invested too much to lose it to a bit of grit!!

Glad I took the advice, not handfuls like you had Steve, but enough to do some damage I expect:

Just an idea of what that amount of sand can do:

That was both cams, all cam caps, head, the mains & big end bearings, etc, etc all needed replacing. Not a cheap fix for a £30 bit of aesthetics!
