My mot expires on saturday, my test is on tuesday at 5.30. I HAVE to go to work on monday and tuesday. Is it a fine or would I get points if I was caught?

We're talking hypothetically here I presume as it's a public forum...

Having no MOT isn't an endorsable offence.
However, having no MOT will probably invalidate your insurance, which means 6 points and car potentially seized.

Is there no other way you could get to work, hypothetically speaking of course?

Oh yes its all hypothetical!

I have checked my insurance and it doesnt say on the policy that i have to have a valid mot.

And no there isnt

for future referance you can get an MOT done a month before your old one expires, giving you a 13 month new ticket, and a month to fix any probs should there be any
get caught driving without an MOT (no. plate recognition cameras will spot this even if plod doesn't stop you) other than to a pre booked MOT test appointment and you will get a fixed penalty at best at worst you can will be towed away, have an accident and you will find your insurance won't want to know you

your car would be classed as not roadworthy without a current MOT.
if you had a serious accident then the insurance company would try to find any reeason not to pay out.

also most police cars have the new cameras that read the number plates and this also flag cars with no MOTS,

if thats not bad enough, we also have small static camera's at various road juction that send this information to the nearest traffic cops.

I would get an MOT straight away it shows up on the police ANPR system (unless your in scotland which still has manually written MOT's I believe not to sure though).

My mate crashed his car with out knowing his MOT expired ( can be done cause I was driving my mini for 3 months not realising it had an MOT).
and he got in very big trouble (insurance did not pay out and now his current insurance on a 1 litre corsa is almost 3K, he got 6 points and a hefty fine.

So IMHO its better to be safe than sorry, Surely your work place would understand you have to take your car to get an MOT.

I know my employer would tell me to sort my **** and get organised, they even give you a little blue sticker to remind you, if you need to be reminded

My Dad lol he works as an MOT tester but obviously he told me wrong information which is probly about right cause 80% of the things he tells me about cars is waffle lol.... just thought i read it somewhere as well. so my bad

Thanks for all the advice.

There is no point going to an MOT station tomorrow because my car will fail on the windscreen and therefore I still will not have an MOT.

Autowindscreens going bust has xxxxx up my mot so ive had to move it to tuesday as the earliest I can get my windscreen replaced by Autoglass is Monday afternoon.

I cannot throw a sickie and I cannot get a bus. I may borrow a van from work or my mates car if I have to.

I am well aware that if I arranged it last month I would have loads of time to fix the parts and get 13 months, but I just haven't had time to get it sorted out unfortunately.

Fortunately I live in the country and the likihood of an ANPR being on the roads I travel down are highly unlikely. Unless there is a copper subscribed on here I hope I'll be fine.

I may use the Autowindscreen's actual situation as an excuse if I were to be pulled.

And they'd say autowindscreens hadn't gone bust a month ago....

Best bet is if you get caught, don't give excuses just be nice and take it on the chin. More chance of being warned and let go if you do that.

If I was going to consider trying to sneak around for a couple of days without a current ticket, I probably wouldn't post the fact on an internet forum first.

I have 2 friends who work for them and from what i've heard they didn't tell all the staff it had happened either. they Just showed up for work as normal and no managers were in and no phones being answered.

lol i didnt mean it like that i meant his more very old fashioned and dont like me 'Fidling' with my cars . He didnt want me to try and put the starter motor on mine and told me it was wrong cause I think he was more worried about something going wrong (e.g the car droping on me) as I was only using a trolley jack and 1 axle stand on my slightly sloped drive

I could have got the windscreen replaced a month ago yes, but I didnt have a 9inch long crack from the top of the screen until last week and it takes a week to get the glass in. I'm sure it'd be fine.

Don’t think the police are that hot on MOT since had to get my bike MOT yesterday after I found out it ran out in Sep 2010 yet never got stopped.
Next year the MOT date is going on the calendar.

I had my car pass through it`s M.O.T last year, on the way home I got pulled.. Officer - `You know why we stopped you?` Me `No?` `Bad news I`m afraid mate you have no M.O.T`. I waved the fresh certificate at him and he said `oh, right the database must not have caught up yet`. So yeah, they will pull you for it if they think you have no M.O.T and they can check via the ANPR. He saw I had insurance and tax and was happy to let me go but obviously would have been another story if I didnt have the new M.O.T certificate sat on the passenger seat.
