[Mk2] [Generic] Fitting a new exhaust... Bolts rusted on solid!!!... Dremel time! :D

Post by mr2_mat »

Started fitting my lovely shiny (not for long, no doubt!!) JapSpeed exhaust today... However, the bolts on my old exhaust were absolutely the worst that I have ever seen...

It took over an hour and a half with the dremel (cutting and grinding) to get the blasted things off!! Not a nice job! It is amazing just how totally corroded 16 year old bolts can get! And the top bolt is a particularly awkward one to get to!

Started the car with the exhaust removed, and boy, it is loud when revved!

I test fitted the new JapSpeed after some minor adjustments (hanger holes needed slight enlargement and left hand side hanger plate needed twisted outward slightly), but further slight amendment is now needed (rods attaching the hangar plates are too close to the holes - interferes with bolt heads - so needs ground back slightly), but ran out of time today, so that's a job for tomorrow...

Got the last bits sorted yesterday, and exhaust is now fully fitted (with new bolts all-round!!), looking great and sounding awesome! :thumleft:

Took it for a test drive and very sweet. Can't wait to take it for a proper run in the morning. :D

mine after a year of use on the legalis exhaust (had to remove for a clutch change) that's a big serious grinder btw

and with no exhaust, actually didn't sound so bad!
