Engine Help

Post by spoofer »

Could this be Diesel?
What would the affects of putting diesel in the fuel tank be with the MR2 3SGE lump?
A friend filled up for me earlier £10. I just drove a 14 mile round trip. Smell of burning tar when stood in traffic. Then back fire climbing a hill. Engine seems to be running fine.

Engine has had a recent head rebuild, replacement throttle body and the unit with the butter fly’s chokes in. I’m getting about 17 miles to £10 0f fuel

I'm not sure. I can only say from previous experience...

Long story short. On a "Highland drive" north of me a few years back I filled a spare can of petrol while I was at the petrol station , but never needed it. A few months later I chucked it in the tank to get rid of it (tank was 3/4 full anyway). I couldn't even get out of the car park at work aftwerwards. I could barely move the car.

It was back firing, popping from the intake with smoke coming out of it (in perfect smoke rings) and if I tried to rev past 2,000rpm the car would just bog-down to the point of stalling and mis-fire and jerk like hell.

I got slated by the mechanics at work for putting a can of diesel in as they said those sympotms would possibloy do just that. When they inspected the remains of the can and agreed it smelled very funny -but we all knew it wasn't diesel then they let-off, we towed the car up to the ramps and dropped everything in the tank. Took about 10 full tank fulls afterwards to clear the symptoms completely and it's been back to normal ever since!!!

...That's my only experience of folk describing what a "dollop of diesel in a petrol is like". Mine's very choosy on fuel though. I'm not sure if that helps you or not.

PS: you need to update your profile to say what car you have. Sometimes it makes allot of difference.
