Playstation Move

Post by matt_mr2t »

Hello hardcore gamers.

My brother is looking at getting a PS3 for his girls at Christmas and i was thinking of getting the Move pack + an extra controller. But ive never played it or even really paid attention to it until now. You'll appreciate its not cheap for the kit + extra controller so need to know if:

They have a Wii already - is Move a lot better?
They're 9 & 14 is it easy enough for girls of thst age to get in to?

On just the ps3 itself - ALL my games are 15 & 18 rated. Is there a pot of choice of games available for young girls?

The hardware is a lot more advanced than the standard Wii Remote, the PS3 knows it's general position due to the camera, it's got accelerometers (that the Wii Remote has), and a magnetometer.
However, it's functionality as a pointing device isn't as good as the Wii Remote.

It's all down to the games. The Wii has games written for it for years. The Move is new and only has a handful of games (at the moment, full list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ga ... ation_Move ).

Start The Party or Racket Sports look to be the best suited at the moment for girls/family.

Of course there's Top Darts released on PSN for the Move on December 22nd \:D/ :thumleft:  8)

Hmm, pretty inconclusive really then.

Does the starter kit come with the navigation remote, it doesnt look like it from the box?

It's pretty pricey really. £50 for the kit + £30-£35 for a 2nd controller + more if I need to buy a Navigation remote too.

Is the game that comes with the kit any good H3RB?

If it's just for kids then I personally wouldn't bother. Either the Wii will become redundant and they'll only want to play on the PS3, or they'll go back to the Wii because they're more used to it.

BD players are cheap as chips now, but if the end goal is to get rid of the Wii and replace the setup with a PS3, then go for it.

It might be a non starter. He chatted to his wife (not their mum) who said they've never asked for one so why bother.

I suggested he just ask them. Ok, it wont be a surprise when they get it, but at least it would sort it out once and for all.

I think the Wii is a pile of cack quite honestly. If the PS3 & Xbox can now do the whole wavey arm b0ll0x then I cant really see there's much of a market for the Wii any more.

Market penetration is a very powerful thing...

I haven't touched my Wii in about 2 years now, it holds no interest for me at all. Unless 2nd gen Move & Kinect software gets past the wavey arm stage and does something different, I'm completely uninterested in them.

But what I mean is, why would you, if you were looking at buying a games console, limit yourself to 2nd rate Wii games just for the novelty of wavey arm nonsense when you can open up a whole world of quality games on next gen consoles.

The only reason I see for some one buying a Wii from this point on is price. It's cheaper than a Ps3 + Move or an Xbox + Kinect.

Other than that it does absolutely nothing that they cant offer and offer better.

Because at the moment they're all wavey arm games, and until anything exciting comes out that proves this tech can work with 'hardcore' games, then you're taking a leap of faith buying into it.

It doesnt have to be hardcore games. Just leave the wavey arm nonsense fo the kids and casuals & leave the hardcore games to proper controls.

You can now have effectively the best of the Wii & the best of the PS3 or Xbox on one console.

i said the same thing about the ps move. the wii is OKAY but its completly built around waving your arms about which is fun for a week then the novelty dies off.
with the move the ps3 isnt built around the wavey arm part so you can either play serious games or dance around the living room if you really want so you get the best of both worlds.

And thats why i think the Wii has a problem, I just cant see, other than the price, why anyone would choose one over the ps3 or xbox anymore.

I see theres a singstar and buzz game for PS Move. Hows that work?

got to say i have the kinect and i feel that its better than either the wii (have used one) and the PS Move as there are no controllers at all and its use isn't limited to just games (voice activated movies etc). as i stream all my movies from the PC anyway i have no need to get a BR player.
if your in the market for a wavy hands type system id recommend going to comet or the like and trying both the kinect and move and decide from that

While I advocate the 360 for games, I think it's better for them to have a bluray player as well. They also use Lovefilm so can stream direct to the PS3 and watch BBC Iplayer etc on it.
