polishing rear light cluster

Post by gooseman949 »

my rear light cluster is beginning to look a little jaded considering the age of the car. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions how i can make it look a little better ie polishing compounds etc. Thanks :thumleft:

Toothpaste. I kid you not. Not gel but the actual paste - ideally with some of the small particle bits in it.
Works wonders. Quicker than T-cut, plus leaves your lights smelling minty fresh!! I then follow this up with a quick wipe of plastic polish then wax, but really a couple of applications of cheap toothpaste rubbed on then wiped off works well!

Haha, thata's a result, Max. :thumleft:

As I understand , toothpaste has some very fine abrasive particles suspended in the paste which have to be very fine so as not to remove the enamel from your teeth. Makes sense that the same particles would remove the clouding from the lenses in the same way a fine grade sandpaper would.

I'll give it a try on mine the weekend, gives me somthing to get my teeth into. :-#

dont knock the toothpaste bloody good on cleaning gold and wicked on crusty spots as it drys them out, picked up second tip from a female friend i was dubious about putting toothpaste on my face but results were amasing over night, ive used t cut and autoglym polish brought mine up a treat. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
she's all comming together nicely now after a fair bit of cash spent, not bad for just an n/a now for some body kit i think.

I did mine last week with toothpaste and then a silicone spray. It took all the surface clouding off and came up shining. A week later, it still looks good.

Thanks for the tip guys

Toothpaste is effectively abrasive polish, so are cleaners like Cif etc. Polishes all have particles in them, T-cut is a corser grade of polish than Autoglym SRP, but they're all the same thing.

SRP on it's own works for me, followed by some Collinite wax :thumleft:

Went over mine with toothpaste too, has taken some of the dullness off but nowhere near as shiny as the ones above. I spent about 5 mins though lol

Is it possible to get them really shiny with toothpaste alone?? Just lots of elbow grease??

Probably depends if you're using teeth whitening or not

I would suggest that it's fine for the first step, but you need something with a finer grit for the next stage.
