Light Upgrade

Post by Rev1Richie »

Hi, When i had my last MR2, i swapped out the stock front headlight units with a pair of new ones from Ebay, they were plastic lenses and i think made a difference. Now with my new MR2, i decided to do the same and ordered these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 392wt_1199

When they came i was well surprised not only were they relatively inexpensive, but the lens was made of Glass!! not the plastic i had last time, Not only that but the improvement using these and some uprated H4 bulbs was amazing, at last i could see in the dark, rather than just about seeing the end of the bonnet.

So if like me the HID route is a bit too much, here's a mod that gives instant satisfaction, especially in the early darkness that has descending on us.

Certainly cheaper than a set of Raybrigs.

So these are just replacements for the original headlamps? And they use the standard bulbs? Are they legal and will pass an MOT?

What is it about these that improves over the standard lamps?

i was thinking of raybrigs, but prices (+shipping) from Japan were rather scary... do you have any pics of them fitted?

Perhaps HIDs would be better suited to these as well, as there is no pattern on the glass to mess up the beam (says the pattern is in the rear reflector)
I will try some and let you know :)

I have a pair of these fitted and i must say they did make a noticable difference over the standard units, i also think it makes the front look alot more modern.

Harold, these are replacements and as far as i can tell have the E mark, so i assume , are MOT Legal. you can use any type of bulb as long as they are H4, i put in a set or Xenon 6000. make the light appear cool...

By the way Harold, did you fix your power steering problem as i had the same but understood what the problem was and have fixed it ( i had an aftermarket wheel as well)

These are the ones that I bought - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400280975094?redirect=mobile

They accepted £35 on make me an offer, and the E marked ones don't come up for sale that often, usually the non E marked version, I wanted to make sure there would be no problems come MOT time.
