Just walked down to the car to have a look because I cant rest. Reverse lights will not work still, wires allover the show in the boot and front trunk. I see where the amp has been mounted in the trunk, and a wire coming off either side of the battery to it.

The car started fine, havnt driven it and didnt turn the lights on or turn the headunit on, and the red fan light stayed off. The ABS light came on and stayed on though. SO I will see in the morning if it goes ok without switching on the headunit. Seems to be that the car dies when the headunit is on...

I would take a shot at the reverse camera taking power from the reverse lights circuit and it maybe having not been properly connected, or not properly earthed.

I know that's only a tiny element of the problem but that's where I'd be looking for that part of the issue.

I wouldn't do anything before going back there and demanding they fix it all first though and seeing how far you get.

An amp should have power from battery with an inline fuse, earth, remote feed from head unit, rca connectors in from head unit and speaker wires out from amp to speakers. Pretty hard to mess up!

Get some pictures of it all as well so that when you complain you have evidence of the poor job.

What a bunch of idiots.

Cheers mate. Yeah well they have made a serious mess up! I had no issues before I went in so it all has to be what they have done. I bet your right, camera is stealing power before it gets to the reverse lights.. That would make sense. So they need to take the camera off and put it back how that was or find a better place to draw power for it. God damn hassle. I`ll go back to them first and I at least want the money I paid for fitting back if they cant rectify it.

I`ll get some pictures tomorrow and post them up aswell. It cant be that hard to fix surely, speakers an amp and a headunit lol. It has a dvd screen/sat nav, would that draw much more power than a normal headunit? Could it be my old alternator giving out and be coincidence?

Just went and started it fine, runs for approx ten mins then just splutters and dies. When you press buttons on the heater control unit, the cd player starts doing things...

in all honesty i'd be telling the manager to get the car recovered to there place, remove every trace of what work they have done leaving you with no less than a car in the state it was upon arrival. Then start again with a company that know what they're doing.

In my experience the guys in halfords stores are up to the task of changing mrs miggins wiper blades but not much more. Granted there may be some who are great at there job but probably not many!

Just my opinion.

I think you are absolutely right. This is just terrible service. I just rang the `manager`, who has told me to phone back when the `fitter` comes in at half 11 to speak to him about it. And hes telling me I need to get it to them.

Failing them actually sorting this out properly, what I might do is write a letter to them with all the faults that have happened since they worked on it, get a good auto electrician to inspect it and fix it, and send them the bill for rectifying the problems caused.

phone the head office mate

01527 517 601

thats the main switchboard number, ask for the area managers number of the store that did it

just tell them the fitter was a tool and the manager is giving me the run around.

Or call the manager and tell them unless he sorts this as a matter of urgency at their expense you will go to head office, nobody who works for a corperate company wants head office coming down on them

Only just spotted this thread.

All of the systems you mention (ABS, Alternator and Reverse Lights) run off a single circuit- ECU-IG. If your car has an electronic speedo then this should also be non functional. The ECU-IG fuse is one of the three located in the engine bay and should be very easy to check.

Cheers Rogue, its a mechanical speedo so thats still functioning. I`m going down to check the fuse now :thumleft: And also thanks Jason, I`ll be making use of that number if nothing gets sorted. They have offered to take a look at the car saturday, but it means me having the hassle of taking the battery off, charging at home allnight and walking a mile to my car and back with it.. And hoping it lasts out to get me there.

Woohoo! Thanks for the info Rogue :thumleft: I changed the fuse and everythings back to how it should be.

The speakers are poor quality though so i`m still going back saturday to sort that out with them and get my camera connected up.

put the busted fuse in and see if they can work it out, then 'take' it to another garage that will spend hours fixing the problem and tell them they have to pay

No problem. :thumleft:

One thing that it doesn't explain though is why they couldn't get the rear view camera to work. The reverse lights are ground switched so the fact that the 12v circuit was down shouldn't make any difference unless this is where they were taking the power feed for the camera... But then they should have been able to work out that the camera was dead rather than it being a switching issue...

The other possibility is that they assumed a 12v switch and tapped ECU-IG to supply the head unit, which would most likely have been expecting a ground. I would expect that to short it out and give you the symptoms you experienced. (<-conjecture)

Yeah he had checked the footwell and front boot fuses, but not in the engine bay. Without people on this site I swear my car would be in the scrappers by now.

So on another note, the reason my sound quality is weak and no bass is because they fitted 13cm Alpine speakers in the doors which are just pants. He was saying he would have fitted larger speakers, but couldnt due to the shape of the door/overall fit was difficult for the mr2..

http://www.loot.com/advert/2-alpine-car ... rs/2941147

Those are what went in I believe. /\

What have you guys got for door speakers? Also he was meant to be reconnecting the standard sub which is located behind the oassenger seat, but failed to do that as he said he `couldnt figure out which wires went back to it`.

So after spending the best part of 600 quid I still havnt got a decent quality sound from it all. lol.

The headunit is good, its touch screen and you can go in and change bass/treble/loads of other stuff and tinker with it, I think with good speakers it would be ok. It has sat nav built in and DVD and the screen hides away at the push of a button. So thats one good thing. Navsure N420i it`s called.

I needed spacers to fit the 16cm speakers in my mk2.

If the audio is.bad it could be they did a crap job of setting the amp. Theres a setting called gain, without eqipment the best way to set is turn it right down. Put your stereo to.about 80% of its.max volume setting, turn the gain until the sound distorts then back off a little.

Dont bother with the stock.subs, if you have spent that much yoj should have a proper sub.
