Very interesting read, looks like I will need to get a 3 bar map sensor to run over 1.5 bar to be in with a chance of making good power.

Kongaroo
, The TD06 IS old skool technology tho! regardless of what power you can make from it!
look at the T88 34D, you can make 1kbhp with that but it is slow, lazy, frame size is twice the size it needs to be
-Lockys96 results prove that!
Comparing a TD06 to a HTA 3071r would show a similar story.
People are even starting to consider the garrett GT series as old now as they now have the GTX range which uses billet technology, and Precision turbo are using Billet wheels, HTA, Borg warner
(i belive); Billet is the
'New' skool design tech.
You also mention a key point too, you used a Healthy dose of meth injection! this is a major factor as its the closest you are going to get to running race gas without actually running it!

well have another shoot out sometime soon steve, lol
long as you stay off that NOS, pmsl

Your on
will be a while before I get the engine in and mapped.

I know that Ryan

I don't know about that Thor dyno post though.

(21.75psi) on a TD06.
Flywheel I could believe.

I was going to mention this also, like I said in first page, I know of 2 people recently who both got bang on same results at 1.1-1.2bar with a td06, gen3, PFC, both made around 280whp at that boost level on a DD dyno.

I don't think Thor have the best rep on here.

Am pretty sure kong you took that turbo to it's limits at that boost you ran, what with hours of tuning

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Aiming for 400whp, advice sought please
Ah sorry Kong
- i miss read a bit, missed one word out of your sentence and it gave it a whole new meaning lol
.

Tbh, from what i have heard about THOR
,i wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

No worries Ryan

Jim
- I recall the thread you are talking about from the US forum quite a few months ago.
IIRC someone got a dyno sheet from Thor showing 389whp at 17.4psi on pump fuel.
I think we would all agree that figure is certainly impossible on just pump fuel with a TD06.

When I mentioned that his graph was clearly displaying DIN horsepower which is a German standard for flywheel power, he put up an e-mail from Thor saying the measurement was not a flywheel measurement but was actually the power at the hubs which was
'normalised to British DIN standards'
.

Back when I was running the TD06 on my car with somewhere between 800 to 1000cc of methanol injection I found that the methanol was giving me an octane boost sufficient to run about 20 to 30BHP more from ignition timing increases over pump fuel alone at my particular boost level.
Even with that octane boost I reached the safe limits of my octane
(but not the peak power limits of the turbo) at 358whp and 21.2 peak psi.
This calculated to be about 420 flywheel power on a dyno dynamics.

389whp is clearly going to be impossible on pump fuel alone with a TD06 at just 17.4psi.
Anyone claiming otherwise has to be mistaken but like I said I could believe 389 flywheel power for that case too.
The only other explanation is that it is down to it being measured in that special
'British DIN'

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Aiming for 400whp, advice sought please
Spent the last few days fitting the bootmount to my car that i purchased from Steve Horrocks

Have to say i'm very impressed with it, can drop from 38deg c at idle to 23deg c on full boost in no time

Got a bit more lag but after taking on what has been said i'm on the hunt for a bigger turbo when funds permit

was checking my injectors as i was unsure what size they were and found a part number 17113742 which after googling corresponds to delphi 780cc or 75lb/hr which is what i thought they were but now it's confirmed, does anyone know the settings i will need to program into the power fc in order to drive the car down to rs tuning?

Oh man! That IC setup looks cool! Lol.
I miss it already!

As for injectors.
Stock 540 yours 780 so that's 69%.
So alter PFC to 69 or 70% should be safe to get down there.

Sure you don't want a big ol' T67 to make use of it all?!

How did it fell making that first cut innthe boot floor?!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Aiming for 400whp, advice sought please
It was a bit weird taking an angle grinder to my car
but ultimately it will be worth it,i'd love to take that T67 off your hands but i'm skint to put it bluntly, love the reaction every time i open the boot and somebody sees the IC and pipes
it's a cross between OMG and
'are you mad?' I'm going to use the td06 to it's full potential first and then when my credit card has recovered i'll likely get a GT3076r i think

PS i forgot to ask,did you have an issue with the hot pipe rubbing on the ignition leads above the dizzy? hence the temporary rubber insulator

Err, no rubbing as far as I can remember.
Although, I could just not have noticed! Lol
Although think my turbo had the hot pipe running higher
& further to passenger side.

That will be it,bit of size difference between a td06 and a t67,had to use a spacer on the turbo outlet so the hose would fit
