[Mk2] [Turbo] problems above 5k revs

Post by MR_Cerberus »

hi guys just been out for a spirited run after dropping the missus of at her mates

right i noticed when in 3rd (but does it in second too and we bit in 4th) that as you go above 5k the acceleration drops and starts again making it feel like the cars jerking back and forwards. also it revs up to 6.5k but take a while to get there past 5k like something in the fuel air mixture isn't right. im guessing turbo engine rev cleanly upto the range like NA engine (first turbo motor). also what is the stock rev limit?

my first thought was that there might be a leak in the intake or the MAF meter is dead.

the car is stock with a cheapy manuel boost controller, hard intake pipes a non stock intercooler (bought it like this plan on changing it all when funds allow)

Thanks Andy

If it's rev 1 or 2 then I would deffo say an air leak...a fatigued hose or loose clip thats not giving up untill pressure builds...I had exactly this prob and it was my IC hoses.

right spent most the arvo swapping clips that were just too big. off the hard intake pipes and messing about tightening the bodged lot up. has made a differance but still not right. agreed ive only used jubilee clips as i had some but i did them up with a socket and there tighter than the maxed out ones they replaced

now i suspect the hard pipes are a flea bay special as there bigger than the manifold and the intercooler attachments so the little samco bits are half right half wrong its all just abit xxxx.

my main question is in the pressurised side of the intake whats the benefit of hard pipes as it doubles the number of joints surly a two nice bits if samco would suffice here?

also can someone recommend an intake solution
